Dhadi also spelled as Dhadhi, is one who sings ballads using Dhadd and also Sarangi, the folk instruments of Punjab. According to Kahn Singh Nabha's Mahan Kosh the definition of dhadhi is "One who sings ballads of warriors playing Dhadd". Dhadis are a distinct group/singers emerged in the time of Sikh gurus.

Kavishari or kavishri is a style of Indian folk music entailing energetic and dynamic a capella singing. A performer or writer of kavishari is known as a kavishar. Kavishari is usually performed in melas, weddings, diwaans (religious functions), harvest celebrations (i.e. Visakhi) and mehfils etc.
