Swivel is a handy and lightweight utility that allows you to set a custom screen orientation/rotation for each app on your device.
Just scroll through your list of apps, set the screen orientation you prefer for that app, and press Start to enable accessibility access for Swivel. Then, Swivel will make sure that any app you open will open in the orientation you prefer. Swivel uses accessibility access which means it consumes very few resources on your device while running in the background -- you won't even notice it's there!
Orientations include:
DEFAULT (circle) - the app defaults to the global default screen orientation setting you have set in the notification bar/system settings
PORTRAIT (lock) - the app will only display in portrait or inverted portrait modes (based on accelerometer)
PORTRAIT (up arrow) - the app will only display the app in portrait facing up (normal portrait)
PORTRAIT (down arrow) - the app will only display the app in portrait facing down (inverted portrait)
LANDSCAPE (lock) - the app will only display in landscape or inverted landscape modes (based on accelerometer)
LANDSCAPE (up arrow) - the app will only display the app in landscape facing up (normal landscape)
LANDSCAPE (down arrow) - the app will only display the app in landscape facing down (inverted landscape)
AUTO (phone/2 arrows) - the app will display in whatever orientation you are holding the phone (0°, 90°, 180°, 270°)

I got a warning message that Swivel would access whatever I entered into the phone, including credit card numbers. This sounds alarming, and not a function related to its purpose. Should I be alarmed about this? I won't use it if it is spying on me.

Exactly what I wanted. Set each app individually to be locked to always portrait/landscape or leave to system setting. So I can make sure I don't go landscape mid-text message, but my videos always start landscape, pictures portrait, other apps set to change as normal. You can lock to Portrait/Landscape Up or Down only, or still leave that to the accelerometer! Just missing a batch option - I'd lock everything to portrait then change a few apps back, by exception.
App was exactly what I wanted but has some issues. Very handy and have been using it for months. One thing that's super inconvenient it the mechanisms by which that I need to jump through just to disable the app. I wish it was easier to turn off on the fly.

It's perfect. It seems like there is always an app that turns the wrong way just as you are about to use it, then, it seems like it takes a decade for it to rotate back. This eliminates that completely.

Man if only this was default functionality. Awesome. About the only fault I see is that the interface is a bit clunky requiring repeated taps to toggle through the setting, but functionality wise, 100%

Natural operation Should be built in to Android. Reading apps should never rotate, movie playback always horizontal. Then some need to go back and forth. Glas to have this evening when I have pay.

There is a flaw in this app... I've used rotational apps before... but this one does NOT do it correctly. It will cut off icons on your screen instead of resizing/fixing after doing the rotation.
Just what I was looking for! I've been battling a screen orientation issue with a lot of apps on my Asus Google Player which is an Android Box. Perfect solution to the issue I was having. I have a couple enhancements I'd like to added in but that's more for convenience then functionality.
The reason I bought the app was so that I could lock my home screen in portrait, while letting everything else rotate freely. When I lock "Nexus 5X Home Screen" in the app, it seems to have no effect. It works for all other apps, just not the home screen. This means that I have to natively lock the home screen in portrait, and then go through ALL my apps and set each one to rotate freely. Not sure why it wouldn't work for just the homes screen. Some feedback would be appreciated.
Just installed the app......it seems to be fighting my tablet for orientation. Played with it and locked kind of got it to work but, then it cut off a portion of the screen that is necessary.
Kinda works All my apps would still rotate to landscape (even while locked in portrait) for a quick second then fix itself.
30 seconds of testing and it seems to do job. Tried using MacroDroid app first but way too complicated and unreliable
Fantastic Tried most of the similar apps. This is the only one that doesn't get killed by touchwiz on S6 Edge+ and uses less than 10mb while running in the background!!
Makes droid better Great app, customer service is top notch with prompt feedback. Makes droid easier to use. Samsung Note 4 on AT&T
Excellent! It's been a while since I've been looking for an app as good as this one. Simple and flawless!
Working to resolve Working through some issues. Very responsive developer. Let's get this worked out!

Hi Xochil,
Sorry this is happening to you -- I developed this on 2 nexus devices so not sure what's going on. Do you mind e-mailing me wahoobus@gmail.com with the exact problem? have you enabled accessibility access by pressing "start" ? The best I've tried loads of these type of apps. This one works perfectly.
What I need. It is here This is what I 'm looking4. It is good vs 0.99$ paid

Hi Krasimir, would love to hear about what issues you're encountering. do you mind emailing me at wahoobus@gmail.com so I can figure out how to fix them? Solves one of the most annoying issues I had with my phone. Totally worth the price.
Useful, great app! Well designed app, intuitive and really useful. Better than relying on the native screen rotation. Simple to customize!
Have been looking for a good screen orientation manager for a while. I hate my phone's auto-rotation feature and it is so annoying to always switch the screen lock. This finally fixes all of that. Just set it once and you're in complete control of your phone's screen for every app! Definitely a must-have utility
It's ok It did what it was supposed to do for many apps, but reset orientation for things that I could not control with the app such as the home and lock screen. It also couldn't control the stock messaging app, which is the one I wanted changed most of all.

Hi Adam,
Sorry about these issues. I'm happy to resolve them for you personally -- can you send me an e-mail at wahoobus@gmail.com so I can get more information? For ex: what is your stock messaging app called? what do you mean by "reset orientation"? Doesn't work This app didn't work for me on my Samsung S5. I want my money back.
Kept freezing Kept freezing every time I tried to use the apps I set to a certain orientation

Sorry you had this issue. Did you press "start" at the bottom and enable access in the accessibility settings? Please e-mail (wahoobus@gmail.com) me and I'll fix this for you right away. Didn't work at all Didn't carry out its primary function.. Worthless to me. Xperia z2
Not on Gallery Picture gallery doesn't come up on the list of apps that will swivel. That was the one I wanted.
