OTAGO Pro is an app aimed at practitioners in the field of training to prevent falls. The app contains a fall preventive home training program based on the original Otago Exercise Programme and follows the same standardized layout. You need to have experience in instructing and prescribing training specifically to prevent falls in order to get optimal use of the app.
The program is an individually adjustable exercise program for older adults over the age of 65. It requires little equipment, which enables exercise in the home. The program is structured and includes different exercises for leg strength and dynamic balance exercises. The app also includes warm up- and stretching exercises. The program is recommended to be performed three times a week and is expected to take about 30 minutes. The exercises can be adjusted individually when it comes to repetitions, sets, level of support, and the use of ankle weights.
Walks are encouraged, and both exercises and walks are registered in the app. Motivation is registered through self-appraisal in the app.
Practitioners can follow up and adjust the exercise to optimally achieve adherence and progression. The follow ups can be done via a cloud service, which makes it possible to adjust and follow up the exercise digitally at a distance. This enables a longer follow up period, which ensures training at the appropriate exercise level and that adherence is achieved in a long-term perspective.
The adjusted exercise program can be printed on paper if needed.
