Bornholmsbyn is the third application, which is based on the structure of the well-known Bornholm model. Bornholmsbyn is just as suitable for the youngest children in the preschool, as the older ones in the preschool class/school, as at home. It is also suitable for children and the elderly whose mother tongue is not Swedish. You can press each letter to listen to the Swedish language sounds. You can also click on the images to hear what they represent. Regardless of mother tongue, it can be a help to increase vocabulary.
Bornholmsbyn should be seen as a complement to other language and reading activities. It can be used together with a literate person, who is there to guide and show the important parts, which make the children understand the connection between letters and language sounds. You can choose between uppercase and lowercase at each game round.
In Bornholmsbyn, there are no name lists that can identify the individual. There are also no leaderboards, time limits, or in-app purchases. In the app, the sound can be regulated both in terms of voice, effect and music.
In Bornholmsbyn, there are four different types of houses to enter.
The listening house
The first is the Listening House with its two rooms. In both rooms, it is necessary to be attentive and concentrated in order to connect the sound, which is presented, with the right object in each room.
The rhyme house
In Rimhuset, the player is presented with four paintings. On two of the paintings there are pictures that fit together in terms of content and two that rhyme, e.g. car, cap, hat, steering wheel. Here it is required that the player is able to shift focus between the content of the language to the form of the language.
The letter house
The letter house is the largest house. It contains 6 different environments so-called worlds. In an inspiring way, the most basic aspects of reading are practiced; the connection between letter and sound. This is a prerequisite for understanding how a word is put together and how reading is done.
Each world includes a group of four letters. The letter group includes two consonants and two vowels. The vowels are all so-called "long" (sounds like in the alphabet). One letter at a time is presented. The task is to find all objects that start with the current letter/sound. You can click on the letters to hear how they sound. All the letters of the alphabet except c, q, w, x and z are represented in the Letter House.
The reading house
The reading house is the last house in Bornholmsbyn. All words are phonetically spelled, from short monosyllabic words to longer multi-syllable ones to suit the beginner reader. Here, reading is combined with rhyming skills. A picture and a word are paired together to form a rhyme.
