It says it encrypts your messages, but it doesn't allow for you to generate your own keyset. I can only presume it takes place in the background. BUT, if the other person doesn't a have a app to decrypt the mail, how do they read the mail? Anyhow, the client itself lacks a lot of features. No signature feature… There isn't even a dark mode. These days, this is a must for those who want to save battery power.

Thank you for your feedback. The app creates the keyset or you can import an existing key. It only encrypts with people than can encrypt (in pEp or PGP). The initial focus was on encryption and sync of devices, more convenience features (signature, dark mode,...) will follow in the next releases. Your pEp team.

April 2021 - updated & added a star for good customer service. The concept is great but it does not work well on my phone. I continue to get a popup error asking for my pass phrase, whether I have one or not. I wrote to customer service and missed their first reply but they have been great to work with even though they were not able to fix the error. For now I switched back to my old email client as using pEp was just too annoying. I think it's a great option if it works on your device.

Dear Kyle, the passphrase issue appears if you manually imported keys with passphrases from other software. Please refer to the documentation about this issue or contact support@pep.security for help. There might be some workarounds. Sorry for the inconvenience. Your pEp Team

Excellent app. Though I would like to point out some shortcomings- No tablet mode (Settings has a dual pane mode but not the mail section, so add dual pane mode-one for all folders and one mail viewing area), the mail preview uses light font instead of regular weight, which is hard to read so please make it regular, add an advanced mail writing options like bold, underline and italic text.
