Kolpa CONSCIOUSLY warns you when you paddle too close to protected zones on the river Kolpa in Slovenia — fish spawn sites and bird nesting areas.
These zones are sensitive stretches of the river where fish reproduce and where water birds nest. A calm, respectful pass helps protect the river's wildlife for future seasons.
How it works:
• The app uses GPS to track your position on the river.
• When you approach a known spawn site or nesting area, your phone plays a clear voice alert in your language.
• Alerts work even while the phone is in your pocket or a dry bag — the app runs as a persistent foreground service during a trip.
• A topographic map of the Kolpa corridor shows where you are.
Works offline:
• The map of the Kolpa corridor is bundled with the app (source: ARSO, used with permission).
• Spawn-site and nesting-area data is bundled with the app.
• Voice alerts are spoken by your phone's built-in voice (on-device text-to-speech) — no internet needed.
You do not need mobile data on the river.
Privacy:
• The app does not send your location to any server.
• No analytics, no ads, no trackers.
• No trip history is collected.
• No user account is required.
Languages:
• Slovenian (used automatically if your device is set to Slovenian).
• Croatian (used automatically if your device is set to Croatian).
• English (used for all other device languages).
Permissions the app needs:
• Location (including background access) — to trigger alerts as you approach a spawn site or nesting area, even while the app is in the background.
• Notifications — to show the persistent "trip in progress" notification.
• Battery optimization exemption (optional) — so Android does not stop the alert service mid-trip.
Notes:
• The app is free.
• It does not replace awareness and knowledge of the river.
• The detailed bundled map covers the river Kolpa and its immediate surroundings.
• Voice alerts depend on the language voice installed on your phone. If a Slovenian or Croatian voice is not present, you can install one from your phone's text-to-speech system settings.
