About this app

Record the game as you play. You can also create a game record from recorded video.

Children's tournaments, practice sessions, club games—the better the game, the more you want to replay it later.

But there's no one to keep score, and it's difficult to record the game yourself while playing. Komadori is a "place-and-record game camera" for that purpose.

■ Recording while playing
Press "Record Game" on the home screen. Your smartphone can be placed next to the board. Place it on the edge of a table or on a stand so that the entire board is visible. No equipment is needed to position it directly above. Before starting, it will ask if it's a handicap game and the names of the players (you can proceed even if you leave the names blank). Once the board frame is set, select which player is playing first on the screen.

Pressing "Fixed (Start Game)" will begin recording, and the recorded moves will be read aloud and displayed on the screen in real time. The voice for reading the moves can be selected from recordings by Madoka Kitao (female shogi player), "VOICEVOX: Himari Meimei," and "VOICEVOX: Zundamon," and can be turned off from the settings or the recording screen. If enabled in the settings, the names of opening types and castle formations, such as "Shikenbisha" and "Mino-gakoi," will also be read aloud (it's initially off; the voice is "VOICEVOX: Takehiro Kurono").

When finished, press "End Game" and choose how to end the game (resignation, interruption, draw by repetition, etc.). The game record will be created immediately, and you can proceed to review and correct it.

■ Plum and Bamboo
You can choose between Plum and Bamboo in the settings for recording methods. Bamboo is the default. The in-game screen and voice reading are the same for both Plum and Bamboo.

With Bamboo, after stopping, the server re-reads the entire recording to complete the game record, reducing the chances of missing moves or misreadings. However, this requires sending the recording to the server, so please use it in a location with an internet connection. The app reads the moves only within the device.

■ Creating a game record from a recorded video
Place your smartphone in a position where the board is visible and record a video of the game. Later, when you import the video into the app, it will determine the start and end of the game, detect the moves, and assemble a game record (KIF format). While waiting, you can solve one-move checkmate problems.

■ Check and correct
Recognition is not foolproof. Depending on the font of the pieces and the lighting, there may be moves that the app is unsure of. Where the machine indicates particular uncertainty, playback will slowly pause, and the machine's reading will be shown with arrows on the board. You can continue as is, or you can rearrange the pieces on the board and correct them.
You can long-press on the list of moves to select a range and delete them all at once, or rearrange them on the board. You can also add moves between existing moves.
When the game is long, or when the lighting makes it difficult to see the pieces, the app may not be able to read moves consecutively. If the recording remains on your device, you can restart from the beginning by selecting "Reload from Recording" on the results screen after the game ends.

■ Rearranging/Sharing
Any game record created using any method can be rearranged move by move using "Play on Board." You can also view a graph of the game's state, the win rate for the first player, and the recommended next move (these appear when communication is possible).
The completed game record can be sent to the opponent's device as a QR code, or exported as a KIF file. "Share to Other Apps/Websites" allows you to share it with your shogi app, browser-based game record websites, or your computer. You can also print it on B5 paper (trial). For games where moves are missed or the game record cannot be fully displayed on the board, the sharing methods are limited.

■ On Tablets
On tablets, the board is displayed larger, and in landscape mode, the board is on the left and the controls are on the right.

■ Handling Video
Still images (up to 3) to verify the board position and images of the board extracted at each moment of movement are sent to the server. In the case of Take, game recording is added to this. The handling of submitted images and videos, and contact information for deletion, are described in the privacy policy.

When displaying the game state using "Play on Board," only a short string representing the position is sent to the server. Audio is not recorded in any method.

We do not request permission to view photos or videos. We only receive one video you select on the device selection screen. Camera permission is used when recording games within the app.

In the actual tournament (August 2026, Yukuhashi), the same recognition engine was used to record 12 games with fixed cameras.

Komadori is currently available for a free trial.

For your next game, try playing with your smartphone placed next to the board. That shogi game you wanted to replay will be saved at your fingertips that same day.
Simply place your smartphone next to the board, and the game will be recorded in real time. It will read out each move, and you can hand it over immediately when you're finished.

What’s new
