About this app

“Taiwan Social Distancing app” is developed by the Taiwan Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (Taiwan AI Labs) in collaboration with the Executive Yuan and Taiwan Centers of Disease Control (Taiwan CDC) of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The app provides at-risk users located in Taiwan (including Penghu, Kinmen, and the Matsu archipelagoes) COVID-19 exposure notifications and follow-up instructions to contact their nearest health bureau in an effort to reduce further spread of COVID-19.

● Reduce risk of exposure by minimizing non-essential in-person interactions

Social interaction modeling provides information to help people make educated decisions on traveling, commuting, and shopping.

● Use on a Voluntary Basis

Users may install or uninstall the app based on their own preference.

● Mitigate Negative Economical Impacts

The goal is to encourage the public to reduce social interactions and allow businesses to maintain daily operation while following social distancing protocols. This helps reduce the chance of potential government mandated economic activity suspension.

● Reduce the Risk of Transmission

People are encouraged to carry on with their daily lives while reducing non-essential physical interactions.

● Save Lives

Users tested positive for COVID-19 can anonymously share their status with those who have recently come into close contact with them. Privacy of all users will be protected while preventing further spread of COVID-19.

● Manage vaccination certificate for you and your loved ones

Carry a digital copy of the vaccination certificate by scanning the QR code of the digital COVID-19 certificate.

Honestly the complaints about a lack of english/etc versions are both valid and not. Its a mindless series of a couple clicks to turn on with an english notification at the final step and usage doesnt require any reading. Not to mention im sure we all have at least one person we know that can help us with a quick soso translation of a given message/word/phrase. As for reliability, 1) it's better than nothing 2) its about as good as you can make it while keeping personal privacy in mind

Edit: Updated to include English! Thanks for prompt responses and fixes 🌟 Great idea and concept. Definitely useful and will help. But, it does need an English (or other languages) option for non- Taiwanese citizens that don't know Chinese. It disappointing that foreigners have to ask for an English/ other language option- maybe they forgot we are here too...🤔

Not sure why but recently it hasn't worked properly with PXMart qr codes. The text will paste into the text app but will disappear after a split second. EDIT: I tried both quitting and reopening all apps, and also restarting the phone - these didn’t help. The text messages App is Not called Google Messages App, just Messages this is a Sony Xperia II phone, I looked through the settings apps installed and didn’t find a Google Messages App. This problem only happens with PX Mart btw.

Hi, Google's "Messages" app after ver. 10.7.461 (released at 11/22) may have the issue. These options may help: 1. Submit your feedback in the Messages app by Menu > Help and Feedback > Send Feedback. 2. Try other SMS app. For Google's "Messages" app, please refer to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging
