Clay Shooting is a clay pigeon game you play with one thumb. Touch a clay and the gun swings onto it and fires in the same instant — no separate aim, no trigger to find afterwards. Every call throws one, two or three clays and hands you exactly that many shells, so a wasted shot is not a number going down: it is a clay nobody is going to break. A stage gives you two minutes and a number of clays to break inside them. Take a whole call cleanly and the clock is given a second back for each one; break ten in a row and it gains three more. That is the only way to get ahead of a clock that never stops. Five grounds come round in turn — meadow, dusk, floodlit night, snow and desert. Aircraft cross overhead, swallows go through low, and once in a while an eagle takes a clay before you do.
