Dustin Sage, a fifth generation Iowa farmer, was frustrated with the complex nature and lack of data control of leading mobile agriculture apps. He wanted full-access to his farm stats from anywhere at anytime with the ability to download, file and analyze the data at his convenience. His solution was to create an app that met the basic record keeping needs of himself and fellow farmers.
"I realized there had to be a better way to manage my operation. I wanted to easily track my production costs and find ways to be more profitable while having total control of my data. Recording things like product application rates, farm yields, and equipment usage in other farm management programs was complicated and they didn’t let me download my own information in a format I could actually use. On top of all that, writing stuff down in the field and typing it in at the end of the day was a hassle – and it usually just didn’t happen. I built Farm Sage because I wanted to save time and money, and no other tool was able to do that."
Farm Sage features includes:
Crop Planning – setup Farms/Fields and add your crop plan to each, including yield goal, planting and seed information, fertilizer applications, and crop protectants.

POCKETPAM2 is comprised of 12 sub-applications (or modules):
o Crop Diary - covering manual tasks, machinery events, planting records, harvesting records, irrigation records, fertilizer applications, and a comprehensive spray diary records data entry system. Optionally track your inventory batch numbers, spray weather details. Use PAM tank mixes or create your own in PocketPAM2. Pull in Planned Events from PAM (or create plans in PocketPAM2) and convert them to Actual Events.
o gpsScout - used for crop scouting. Crop Observations, Pest & Disease scouting and weed scouting records can be entered. A GPS reading can be taken along with the crop monitoring record. In conjunction with PAM Mapping, a layer of observation sites will be made for each scouting mission, if the GPS option is enabled. gpsScout can also be used to collect waypoints in the field. The layers of scouting points and waypoints can be uploaded to PAM Mapping.
o Mapping – Export map layers from PAM and download them into PocketPAM2 … A layer manager is provided to enable you to view layers from PAM Mapping, from gpsScout scouting missions and from gpsScout waypoint collections.
o Weather – used for recording weather data – includes the complete “Comprehensive Weather” data fields as in PAM. Rainfall, temperature, evaporation, humidity. Generate weather graphs.
o General Purpose Diary – used for taking general (not paddock specific) notes linked to a date. Reminders can be added and associated with dates as can numeric data types and values. Reminders and Numeric Data types can be added on-the-go. Generate graphs of any numeric data!
o Field Rex – designed to be used by consultants to record in-the-field recommendations. The recommendations will appear as recommendations in the PAM program after syncing. Additional features include a facility to SMS or Email recommendations to clients and contractors.
o Stock Taker – used for in-the-field inventory stock taking – when the data is synchronized back to PAM, adjustment records are written.
o Inventory – used for in-the-field purchasing, adjusting of stock levels and transferring consumables from one storage location to another. New consumables, new pack sizes for consumables can be added on-the-go as well.
o Time Keeper – used for recording events, who did them, where, what they did and how long it took. On synchronizing the data back to PAM, employee hourly costs are added to the records. Designed for viticulture and horticulture. Work details can be recorded at the orchard or vineyard row level.
o Livestock Diary – used for recording livestock events: movements, veterinary treatments, supplementary feeding, shearing, branding, breeding, purchases, sales, births, deaths etc.
o Pasture Scout – used for recording pasture covers and pasture growth rates (if known) … and also pasture composition. Generate graphs of pasture cover, growth rates and a useful "Feed Wedge"
o Inventory of Harvested Produce - keep track of grain (or any produce) contracts. Enter delivery records.
Prerequisites: PAM 8.0 or PAM Enterprise or PAM MTE and the PocketPAM2 "Listener" software installed on your PAM computer (or server, if running PAM Enterprise or Mid-Tier Enterprise)

ACCURACY TEST EXAMPLE:
One of the screenshots shows Google Tennis Courts at (1600 Amphitheatre Pkwy,Mountain View, CA 94043) - check this yourself to see how accurately Geo Area works:
Tennis court dimensions are: 36 ft(10.97m) x 78 ft(23.78m)
Therefore, Area= 36 ft(10.97m) x 78 ft(23.78m)=2808 square feet(260.8666 square metres)
Perimeter = Sum of all four sides=228 ft (69.5m)
You can change units from the application settings from feet to meters OR to acres OR to hectares OR to kanals OR to kilometers. Your choice!
GEO AREA LETS YOU DO THE FOLLOWING:
1. Measure the area and perimeter of just about anything on the ground as seen on Google Maps
2. Use area and perimeter units of your choice including feet, meter, hectare, Kanal (area units for India), kilometer, yards, and acre.
3. Either tap on the points of interest on the Google Maps to mark area, OR
4. Use the phone's GPS to mark the field boundary
5. Create Categories of your choice where you can group fields, please refer to the screenshots
6. Create unlimited categories
7. Geo Area lets you share and see the marked fields on any GIS for instance the Google Earth
GEO AREA is for:
1. Land based surveys
2. Farmers, for farm management
3. Land record management
4. Construction surveys
6. Town planners
7. Construction surveyor
8. GIS data collection
9. Health, Education and facilities mapping
10. Farm fencing
11. Sports track measurement
12. Construction sites and building sites area
13. Asset mapping
14. Landscape artists
15. Landscape design
Geo Area is used by farmers for several agricultural applications: crop yield estimation, crop area measurement, and agriculture yield. Geo Area has been used in conjunction with remote sensing (satellite imagery e.g. SPOT 6, SPOT 7) and GIS applications, to collect ground truth data, field records, crop yield, farmers data and agriculture output. Geo Area is ideal for land cover analysis, vegetation mapping and remote sensing where Regions of interests (ROIs) or the Points of Interest (POIs) or Area of Interest (AOI) collected through Geo Area. As seen in the example, Geo Area is ideal for area measurement (area calculator) and perimeter of sports grounds, cricket grounds, football pitches, tennis courts, badminton courts, parking lot area, residential space, running track and rental space. Several other applications exist e.g. transforming manual Patwari or Patvari and the old tape measure system for land record management.
Geo Area is customizeable for all crops including cotton, wheat, rice, sugarcane, sugar beet, maize, tobacco, Virginia, FCV tobacco, vegetables, banana plantations, dates and orchards mapping. Geo Area has also been used for forest mapping and GPS based measurement of deforestation area. Geo Area has also been used to estimate fertilizers, chemical spray, insecticides required for agricultural fields based on the calculated area.
Nothing is complete in itself - we are learning from YOU to make Geo Area more useful. Thank you for your comments and feedback.

Arkansas Galaxy Conference at the University of Arkansas Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, atop Petit Jean Mountain, is an annual professional development activity for Extension employees. The conference is a joint effort between the Arkansas Association of Extension Specialists, Arkansas Association of Extension 4-H agents, Epsilon Sigma Phi and Arkansas Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. You do not have to be a member of these professional associations to attend Galaxy. The conference features professional improvement seminars, presentations and posters from your Extension peers and awards recognition and presentation. Galaxy is a great opportunity to network with your Extension peers from across the state.
During the Galaxy conference you can also engage your culinary senses at a cooking class, celebrate the outstanding accomplishments in Extension at the awards banquet, and outbid your peers at silent and live auctions to support the associations.
