Backgammon is a game of skill and strategy; one of the world's classic parlour board games, played for recreation and gambling. Like Mahjong, Backgammon is played in social groups in coffee houses and bars. Historically, variants of this game are believed to have been played in Mesopotamia and Egypt thousands of years ago, then by the Romans and later in India. It also spread to East Asia, but was largely replaced by Xiangqi (Chinese chess). It is now very popular in the West.

Ratings and reviews

The game needs fixes to be more competitive even at the most difficult level. It accepts doubles in losing positions. It allows itself to be backgammoned instead of moving a disc out of home. Too conservative, when ahead it fears getting hit instead of playing aggressively. At times it has moved 3 single discs in home when I've had one on the bar.

The game was a 5 star until recently when the ads changed. Previous ads are better quality and there are not many of them. Recently the button to close the ads appears later or is hidden so well I can't find it. I play the game a lot so I just need to upgrade to the no ads version. If I was just starting to play the game the ads are bad enough I'm not sure I would keep playing. (But honestly, I would not be planning to upgrade either if the ads were as reasonable as they were.)

The AI isn't bad. At it's highest level it's a fair opponent. It's exit game is a different story. It makes basic mistakes when moving pieces it can't take off the board. It also "gives" you a backgammon (triple score) way too often as it doesn't prioritize moving it's own pieces out of your quadrant.
