About this app

Distance Goal helps you set a distance target and actually finish it. Pick a goal — "50 km in July", or the full length of Britain — then log each walk, ride or run against it. A large progress ring shows how far you have come and exactly how far is left.

START IN ONE TAP
Pick a starter goal: a month of moving, London to Birmingham, or Land's End to John o'Groats at whatever pace you like. All three work out at under 2 km a day. Or set up your own: a target, a window, and the activities you want to count — walking, hiking, running, cycling, wheelchair, swimming, rowing, paddling, skiing, skating or other.

LOG WHAT YOU DO
Add an entry by hand after each activity: the date, the distance, the activity type and an optional note. One entry counts toward every goal it matches, so overlapping goals all move at once.

FOLLOW A REAL JOURNEY
Start a goal from a built-in challenge and watch your progress move along an actual route — Hadrian's Wall, the Camino, Route 66, the Great Wall and more. See which landmark you have just passed and how far to the next one.

SEE WHERE EVERY NUMBER CAME FROM
Tap any figure and it opens up. Tap a day in the diary to see the entries behind it. Tap the daily average to see your real pace against the pace you need. Nothing is a number you have to take on trust.

COLLECT BADGES, KEEP A DIARY
Earn badges as you go, keep a month-by-month diary, and mint your own badges for the milestones that matter to you. Badges are yours once earned — deleting a goal or an entry never takes one back.

SHARE A CARD AND A LINK
Turn any goal into a progress card — a picture of your ring — and send it to whoever you like. Or share a link: anyone who opens it can start the very same goal on their own phone, and can see how far you have got if you choose to include it. Send it into the family chat, the class group or the running club, and take on the same challenge together. There is nothing to sign up for at either end. Got a link from a friend? Tap it, and the same goal is on your phone with one more tap.

OPTIONAL: AUTO-TRACK FROM HEALTH CONNECT
If you want, connect Health Connect and let chosen goals update themselves from distance your phone, watch or fitness app has already recorded. It is off until you turn it on and it is read-only. The app reads the distance and, so it can tell a walk from a ride, the activity type of your workouts. It never reads your route, GPS trace, heart rate or calories. If you log a walk by hand and your gym app records the same walk, the app asks whether they are the same activity instead of counting it twice. Manual logging always works, with or without it.

GENTLE REMINDERS, IF YOU WANT THEM
Optional nudges when you have not logged for a while, when a goal is nearly over, or when a streak is about to lapse.

KEEP GOING WHEN A GOAL ENDS
Finish a goal and start the next one in a single tap: repeat it, stretch it by 10%, or move on to the next leg of your journey.

EXPORT AND BACK UP
Export everything whenever you like: a spreadsheet, a readable summary, Markdown, or a full backup. Restore a backup on a new phone — a restore only ever adds, so it can never wipe out what you have done since.

Free, with no subscription and nothing to buy. Set a distance goal, and finish it.

What’s new

Distance Goal now tells you when your walks are not counting, and why. If two apps record the same walks - a fitness app and a sync app, say - it spots the double count and lets you keep the one you trust in a tap. Settings names every app you have switched off and how far it is holding back. Your goal's dates now show on the diary, sharing has moved to the top of the goal screen, and a half-finished entry or goal is no longer thrown away if you back out by mistake.
