I didn't think that a long-waited update for the Economist would be such a large step back. This app will often crash and stop responding, which causes the app to lose your place in the newspaper. Additionally the new app has a significant increase in the number of advertisements, causing the application to stop responding again. And don't even try the audio edition anymore, which cannot run well in the background. Very frustrated with the new updates.
This app is now abysmal. The previous version was simplicity itself and a joy to use. The new app has wiped my old editions, and when the new edition arrives, I can no longer access the one I'm reading. On top of this, it crashes frequently. Avoid.
Forces re-downloading editions. This is terrible for users who travel and lose re network access on planes and elsewhere. What happened to the edition I downloaded? Whoops it's gone! Now I have to stare at the seat back in front of me for the next three hours. This did not used to happen.
The new app is a major step backwards, no longer getting multiple columns on my tablet (Galaxy Tab S3) just a stretched version. No longer remembers where I left off. Still hadnt got a feature to force it to check for new issues
The new Economist app is a huge step back from the previous one. I mostly use the audio edition and I am faced with regular, random crashes of the app. Additionally now the app does not remember anymore at which track I stopped listening so when coming back it will start at a random time within a random track.
How is the Audio playback not fixed yet??? Broken since the redesign!! The audio stops (and notification cleared) when the app is automatically cleared from the background. This is unacceptable for an audio service. Also the audio edition doesn't keep my place. I open the app and it's midway through a previously listened article. I can understand wanting to unify the interface across platforms, but there's a right way to do it and then there's rushing a broken release.
Various bug fixes and performance improvements.
