About this app

Murmur lets you hold short range group voice calls over Bluetooth LE. Whether you're cycling, hiking or in a crowded place, keep in touch with those just out of earshot.

Murmur provides you with group voice call capability on your mobile device for groups of up to 16 at a time. The more people in your group the greater the range. Signals are relayed between devices in a mesh network.

Out on a group cycle ride or hike? Murmur allows you to talk to your group without relying on WiFi, data or a network connection. Murmur is cross platform compatible and has support for Bluetooth Classic and LE Audio wireless earbuds/headsets.

No account needed, Murmur is completely decentralized, and never 'phones home'. A privacy policy is available at http://getmurmur.co.uk.

Interesting application that does what it claims pretty well! I could see this being useful for walking tours or outdoor classes that don't necessarily have internet accessible. Would be great if there was a way to purchase a "group" or "host" license to disable the (corny but admittedly funny) jokes for all participants rather than requiring each individual to purchase an in-app license, though.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion (a 'Tumbleweed' mode definitely sounds like it could be a thing)

When we create a group, up to 5 people can connect successfully. However, when a 6th person tries to join the group, their device goes into searching mode and never connects. This issue prevents adding more participants to the group, even though the app claims to support multiple users. Please fix this bug as it affects the core functionality of group communication

UPDATE: The latest version (2026.06.30.1644) fixes an issue that may have caused the problem you're seeing. If you get a chance, could you give it a try and let me know if it made an improvement?

I made this! 5 Stars! Seriously though, there are no adverts, and the app doesn't collect any data from you (or need any cell/WiFi reception). It'll bounce signals about 50m outside, which has been great for small group bike rides. Works best when your phone is loose in a bag rather than close to your body in a pocket (water absorbs Bluetooth!). Audio quality can deteriorate sometimes if everyone's using Bluetooth headsets - but wired earphones work great.
