⚠️ IMPORTANT: Hydroscape is an independent, privately-operated citizen-science platform. We are NOT affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency, Natural England, the Environment Agency, or any UK regulatory body. Hydroscape helps citizens record observations and signposts official authorities — it does not replace contacting them directly when required.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Hydroscape is an open-access citizen-science platform for freshwater ecology and biodiversity monitoring. Record cormorant sightings, biodiversity observations, and water quality reports from your phone, on or offline — no login required. Built in the UK, used internationally, 22 languages.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
- Log cormorant sightings, roost counts, and deterrent use. Users may include this record-keeping in their own A06 predation management licence applications to Natural England (official guidance: gov.uk/government/organisations/natural-england)
- Record biodiversity of any kind — mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, plants, trees, fungi — through the Biodiversity Monitor
- Report water quality issues: pollution, algal blooms, sewage, agricultural runoff. Severity-rated reports signpost the Environment Agency's official pollution hotline (gov.uk/report-an-environmental-incident)
- Explore HydroLibrary — a species reference database with conservation status, habitat and ID information in 22 languages. UK-focused with broad international overlap; global coverage expanding.
- See community submissions on the live data map
HYDROVISION AI
Photographs are analysed by our HydroVision AI species identification assistant. You'll receive a suggested species, confidence rating, and alternatives. AI identification is assistive and is not a substitute for expert verification where required.
