Domaine de Palejay is a wine estate based in the southern Rhône valley, France. The Anglo-French couple have been involved in the production of grapes for wine making for more than 30 years and producing their own wine since 2006. The owners planted the vineyards using noble wine varieties and established them to a very high standard. Their ethos is working their vineyards following the French lutte raisonnée method with minimal intervention and use of products.
The Palejay estate takes its name form the Palejay family who were the local gentry in the village in the middle ages. The owners` house was the Palejay`s residence, the manor house and there is a building opposite us which was their private chapel (all over 300 years old).
The noble varieties are the classic Rhône: Mourvèdre, Roussanne and Syrah. Each site was chosen for its micro-climate which enhances the characteristic of each variety. The Rhône valley is the second largest wine-production area in France and known throughout the world for the quality of the wines produced there. The Rhône grape varieties are planted in all the major wine producing areas of the world, producing rich and complex wines.
We have a gite (holiday apartment) which is ideally placed for people who wish to visit this area; we are very close to several Cru appellations for example only 10 miles from Chȃteauneuf du Pape. Also close to other popular tourist locations: Avignon, Nimes, Orange, Aix en Provence, etc.
