What does everyone in the modern world need to know?

Renowned psychologist Jordan B. Peterson's answer to this most difficult of questions uniquely combines the hard-won truths of ancient tradition with the stunning revelations of cutting-edge scientific research.

Humorous, surprising and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

What does the nervous system of the lowly lobster have to tell us about standing up straight (with our shoulders back) and about success in life? Why did ancient Egyptians worship the capacity to pay careful attention as the highest of gods? What dreadful paths do people tread when they become resentful, arrogant and vengeful?

Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world's wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers.

In his book, Jordan Peterson offers practical advice on how to lead one's life, derived from Western culture's written heritage, such as biblical texts. To the latter, he pursues a symbolic approach. Whilst remaining theologically somewhat naive, this is affecting because of its palpable candour and seriousness. Therefore, the book is best described as a sermon, delivered by a talented and honest preacher.

This book truly combines the science of human nature, biology, and philosophy, showing how ones own intellectual ability can identify the disires of humans in which we are all looking for and how societal/religous groups attempts to fulfill them. The author ( Jordan Peterson ) demonstrated what someone who looks at life scientificly/ factually can accomplish by writing a book that captures the different acts of humans and organisms and matches them to our historical philosophies to help explain to the world what their purpose is and how they should strive to achieve their shared goal.

Intelligently written and well thought book. 12 very important lessons for life expressed in 12 content rich essays. Very useful and I am sure that we all could really live better lives with much more harmony if we apply them on a daily basis. I found myself quite lost in some moments, as the author is very knowledgeable and cites many philosophers and complex sources of information. For that, I give it a four stars, as I feel I did not get from it as much as I wish I could get from a first read. I feel like I might be reading this one again in the future.
