Fables (2002) Issues
The Great Fables Crossover part 4, continued from LITERALS #1. Jack tries to pick up his on-again off-again romance with Rose Red when she's at her most vulnerable. Meanwhile, Kevin Thorn is still safely ensconced in his writing retreat and about to rewrite the entire universe! Continued in JACK OF FABLES #34.
Meet Dunster Happ, the most important Fable you never knew. If our friends in exile at The Farm knew even a fragment of what humble Dunster knew, they'd be in a lot less trouble right now. Mr. Happ's just one of a cast of thousands in this issue where we explore Mister Dark's past and how he ended up in that magical box in that faraway fortress.
Witches part 1! The business office got lost somewhere when Fabletown collapsed in ruins. Now Bufkin, the meek and mild flying monkey, is trapped inside with the evil witch Baba Yaga. Meanwhile, Frau Totenkinder and the witches upstate at the Farm prepare to deal with Mister Dark down in what's left of Fabletown.
Up at the Farm, things are getting dicey as the witches try one thing after another to deal with Mister Dark, only to be frustrated, halted and defeated at every turn. Meanwhile, the struggle for political power heats up as the scared Fables turn to the only one among them who's defeated Mister Dark in the past. "Witches" part 3.
In this new storyline, Rose Red has finally hit rock bottom. Does she stay there or start the long, tortuous climb back up? We're hoping for the latter, since this new arc is named after her, and we wouldn't have much of a story without her. The Farm is in chaos, as many factions compete to fill the void of her missing leadership. And there's a big magical fight brewing down in the town square, right under her window.
As trouble brews outside her bedroom window at the Farm, Rose reluctantly pulls herself out of the depression pit and into the heart of war. It's the former Adversary vs. the newfound Nightmare and the future looks very, very dim for the misplaced denizens of Fabletown. "Rose Red" part 2.
The exploration into Rose Red's childhood continues as she's abandoned by her sister Snow. There are wicked witches and evil dwarves waiting out in the wilder parts of the world. Is it better that Rose Red was the one left behind? More important, can Rose pull the Farm back from the brink of chaos? "Rose Red" part 3.
A special 100-page anniversary issue! It's time to put an end to Mister Dark once and for all, and time for the Fables to return home to Fabletown. For that to happen, one of the Fables agrees to take on the Dark Man in single combat! Plus, a prose story written by Mark Buckingham and illustrated by Bill Willingham, a FABLES board game and much, much more!
Super Group part 1! Why has Pinocchio suddenly got it into his head that he needs to design tight-fitting costumes for a carefully selected small team of Fables? In fact, why was he looking over his own comic book collection, mumbling things like, "We can call him Werewolf Man, and he can be the Golden Knight"?
When a strange creature with alarming supernatural powers threatens the world, you naturally form a small commando team of rough, tough customers and put them in tight costumes to confront said creature, right? Isn't that how it's usually done in a rational world? "Super Group" part 2.
The group has been chosen, and they're ready to fight. Meanwhile, mysterious weight is still being mysteriously lost and mysterious handsome princes are acting downright mysterious! At the same time, Beauty and her decidedly unbeastly Beast are discovering all sorts of new things about their lovely daughter. "Super Group" part 3.
Terry Moore draws Sleeping Beauty's return! She'll sleep until she's kissed by a handsome prince who loves her with true love. We have the sleeping girl. We have the handsome princes. But where's the true love? Without that, we fear she may spend a long time napping among the thorns!
Meet the other three Cardinal Winds--West, East and South--as the cubs continue to learn about the life and responsibilities of their grandfather, the North Wind. Meanwhile, Bufkin continues to wreak havoc in Oz by starting a revolution with his usual monkey business. "Inherit the Wind" part 2.
Bufkin continues his schemes to free Oz and its surroundings from the Nome King's oppressive rule. Meanwhile, at the North Wind's keep, the cubs continue to learn how to become winds--but is it turning into a competition with a decidedly deadly edge? "Inherit the Wind" part 3.
Cubs in Toyland part 1! The most harrowing epic since the series' inception starts when Snow and Bigby's cub Therese receives a Christmas gift from an unknown admirer. This red plastic boat may hold the key to a deep, disturbing secret that will incite a series of soul-crushing events for the denizens of Fabletown.
Planning a visit to Toyland? Remember to stay away from the tattered, broken toys called the Discardia. They're dangerous and they're up to something. And if you find yourself in trouble, try to find the Fisher King. He's the only one who can help you now. "Cubs in Toyland" part 5.
Can the Fisher King save Therese or will young Dare be the heroic rescuing knight of his daydreams? In the penultimate chapter of the latest epic, we'll see just who makes it out of Discardia in one piece--and who will be tattered like the citizen toys. "Cubs in Toyland" part 6.
Bufkin and Lily's heroic adventures are too big to contain in 3-page features, so this special full-issue epic will take us to the grand finale of our favorite flying monkey's greatest adventure, co-starring his sometimes-girlfriend Lily with guest art by painter extraordinaire Shawn McManus!
The newly established Fabletown in the former Castle Dark continues to yield dark secrets. Ruthless Prince Brandish locks one of Fables' beloved princesses in a tower with no way out, while in Haven, Beast cooks up a scheme involving Geppetto and the Blue Fairy. "Snow White" part 3.
A new era is beginning for the Farm as knights begin to arrive from every corner of countless worlds. In the old version of Camelot, the brief shining moment was destroyed by infidelity, infighting and the evil machinations of the king's sister. If Rose Red is the king this time, does that mean Snow White is the one destined to bring it all crashing down around them? "Camelot" part 4.
