The Life-Power Church of Maxine gets a boost when the members of the band Year Zero become disciples. When a song based on Maxine's teachings catches the world's attention, her personal crusade takes off.
While on their exodus from Vermont to the "promised land" of Montana, the Life-Power Church encounters a variety of obstacles that cast the pall of doom on their journey, including government infiltrators, angry parents and an unexpected pregnancy.
