Fables (2002) Issues
Snow and Bigby are lost in the deep woods, on the run from a pistol-packing motorchick bent on revenge. You've known for some time that he's really the Big Bad Wolf, but now, for the first time, we'll see what happens when Bigby has to huff and puff in order to save Snow's life.
Why can't Snow White and Bigby Wolf find their way out of the woods? Why does King Cole have to convene an emergency murder trial in the Business Office? And what terrible secret is revealed on the very last page? Find out in "Storybook Love" part 4 of 4!
In a special single-issue story, guest artist Linda Medley (Castle Waiting) draws the tale of The Barley Corn Brides. When the Fables were exiled, the Lilliputian soldiers found themselves without any women. And when Thumbelina comes to town, it's every man for himself.
A new storyline of espionage ignites when a hooded stranger comes to Fabletown asking a lot of questions. Meanwhile, Pinocchio is in over his head, Boy Blue is in for the shock of his life, and Snow White goes incognito...sort of, in "March of the Wooden Soldiers."
The mysterious stranger in red is the talk of Fabletown. What happens when her old nemesis Bigby Wolf is the one assigned to debrief her? Meanwhile, Prince Charming has started his campaign to become the new mayor, and he's making lots of promises...
When the going gets tough, Fables go drinking! This issue takes place almost entirely in pubs--Mundy bars, Fabletown bars, and just about any place where alcohol is served. So don't be surprised if a drunken brawl breaks out and one or two characters say something they wouldn't normally say while sober.
In this standalone issue, the ex-wives of fairytale philanderer Prince Charming reminisce about the Prince of Lies. But Cinderella has another appointment in Paris, and it's one she's dying to keep. Sex and espionage abound as a heretofore-unknown side of the Fables is revealed!
Boy Blue nurses a broken heart, Prince Charming recruits more Fables for his mayoral campaign, and Bigby and Snow team up to get to the bottom of Red Riding Hood's story. Meanwhile, the mysterious trio of Hugh, Drew, and Lou continue to wreak havoc in Manhattan. But, beware: this time they've got guns.
Boy Blue has gone missing, trouble is brewing up at the Farm, and Bigby is still out of town. The residents of Fabletown are about to get a seriously rude awakening when the brothers Hugh, Drew and Lou show up with a gun-toting ultimatum--and the bodies begin to pile up.
Bigby arrives at the farm in upstate New York only to be greeted gun-first by an army of wooden soldiers. Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, the fate of Fabletown hangs in the balance as a very pregnant Snow White encounters a nasty surprise of her own.
As the Adversary's wooden soldiers advance on the Fabletown blockade, Fables young and old prepare themselves for the worst. But these block-headed agents of the enemy may find it difficult to subdue this band of fairytale meat, especially with one seriously angry Snow White leading the charge.
Fires rage as Snow White's makeshift Fable army shows its battle scars. But as lifeless bodies lie scattered in the streets, one witch's deadly battle begins far above the carnage. A storm is brewing, but what it leaves in its wake may be worse than lost loved ones...
War Stories part 1 of 2. It's Germany, 1944, and Bigby Wolf, a member of Dog Company, is sent to the hills to find a monster named after a certain doctor who's too tough to kill...because he's already dead.
In "War Stories" part 2 of 2, a band of American infiltrators is behind enemy lines and in for the fight of their lives deep in World War II Germany as a mythical monster is pitted against Bigby Wolf.
Part 1 of the 4-part story "The Year After"! It's a family affair as Snow White goes into labor, and the magical nature of her pregnancy becomes an event that no one expected. Plus, the results of the election for Fabletown's new mayor are in...and the winner may surprise you!
During the long, chilly fall, Snow White's motherhood begins in earnest and her relationship with Bigby comes to a crossroads in a way that alters many lives. Plus, new jobs and apartments are handed off in Fabletown as Boy Blue makes a fateful decision.
It's going to be a long, dark winter for the denizens of Fabletown! Prince Charming discovers that keeping campaign promises is a lot harder than making them, Beauty and the Beast find that filling Snow and Bigby's shoes may be more than they can handle, and a body is found!
A mysterious death at the Farm, like recent ones that have been plaguing Fabletown, mars the first birthday of Snow's offspring. Is this silent killer another attack from the Adversary--or something even more depressing?
Jack of the Tales has made his grand getaway to Hollywood, and if there was ever a place for such a trickster, it's Tinseltown. Jack quickly learns that being ruthless is the best way to make money--and enemies--fast. Part 1 of "Jack Be Nimble"!
In the finale to "Jack Be Nimble," Jack continues riding the Hollywood high of his new slickster lifestyle, losing sight of the enemies he's made along the way. And the one thing you can count on in Tinseltown is that there's always someone waiting for you to fall.
It's a typical day back in the world from which the inhabitants of Fabletown escaped, full of war and tyranny, not to mention taxes. But in the midst of all the conquering and the slaying comes a mysterious masked man on a quest to find his lost love in part 1 of "Homelands."
Boy Blue continues his dark and dangerous quest to find his lost love through lands wrecked and ravaged by the Adversary's evil will. But Blue will stop at nothing to find her, even when the enemies set before him grow increasingly more deadly.
Boy Blue may finally have a chance to slay the Adversary, but he'll have to escape an empire of guards if he hopes to succeed! The Snow Queen has other plans for the would-be hero, though, as a mind-blowing revelation is made.
In this special interlude issue to the "Homelands" storyline, Fabletown faces major issues as a traitor is discovered. Someone has been divulging war secrets and strategies to the enemy, and when the culprit is identified, the consequences are shocking!
After three long years of teasing and misdirection, the Adversary is finally revealed! Boy Blue continues his quest across the Homelands and learns how close he came to rescuing Red Riding Hood before discovering how the Adversary came to power.
Boy Blue continues his enforced history lesson at the hands of The Adversary, his captor, and is finally reunited with his lost love in the final chapter of "Homelands." But is Happily Ever After even possible after so many centuries apart?
The Arabians arrive in Fabletown from Baghdad, including the mighty Sinbad! The language barrier causes chaos, especially for the already swamped mayor of Fabletown, Prince Charming.
The arrival of the "Arabian Nights" Fables has plunged Fabletown into a culture clash of dire proportions. Can Prince Charming's secret weapon--a Fables character we haven't seen in some time--defuse the situation before much blood is spilled?
Part 3 of the 4-part "Arabian Nights (and Days)." The all-powerful d'jinn is loose and has been ordered to destroy most of Fabletown unless Prince Charming can think of a way to undo what the d'jinn's master has wished. Unfortunately, there's no way to take back wishes once spoken.
Arabian Nights (and Days) concludes as both the Fabletown and Baghdad Fable communities are still reeling from the actions of the deadly d'jinn. And the Arabian Fable refugees make a fateful decision on their future place in the Mundy world.
Deep within the Arabian lands, one small group of goblins and a few of the elite wooden soldiers hold off one attack after another. But this isn't a war story. It's a love story. When two offspring of the Sacred Grove suddenly discover they've got feelings for each other, how do they express it?
In the conclusion of the 2-part story "The Ballad of Rodney and June," it's love in the time of conquest. But how can their love survive when they're both made of wood? They have only one chance: travel to the Imperial Homeworld and petition Geppetto to transform them into real flesh and blood.
Part 1 of the new 2-part story "Wolves." Here's the problem: some time ago, in a bit of a snit, Bigby Wolf packed a bag and left the Fables series. Walked right out! But he's still under contract, so we sent Mowgli, of Jungle Book fame, to find him. It makes sense, right? Mowg is a terrific hunter, and he was raised by wolves. Send a wolf to catch a wolf, right? And in his world-spanning travels to track down Bigby, Mowg encounters all sorts of other wolves. In short, this story's all about wolves. Which you might have guessed if you read the story title.
Concluding the 2-part "Wolves." After more than a year of searching, Mowgli has lost Bigby's trail. So what does a great hunter do when he's run out of leads, clues and anything resembling rational evidence? He makes a wild guess, of course. But has he made a fatal mistake, causing the hunter to become the hunted?
This unforgettable, double-sized anniversary issue of FABLES answers many of your burning questions: what will happen with the doomed love story of Snow White and Bigby Wolf...not to mention their seventh child? What's going on in the homelands with Pinocchio and his dad, Geppetto? When does Bagheera get out of jail? And where the hell are Jack's lost magic beans? Consider yourself personally invited to the most unexpected, major event in the history of Fabletown.
Don't miss this special issue featuring art by Shawn McManus (THE SANDMAN). Following the extraordinary events of FABLES #50 and the completion of her clandestine mission among the giants, Cinderella's next secret assignment is in Smalltown, the Farm's home for Lilliputian immigrants. Can she adjust from being a small woman in a very big world to being a giant woman in a tiny world?
Part 1 of the new 4-part story "Sons of the Empire." What's it like being the firstborn son of a bloodthirsty emperor whose empire encompasses more than a thousand kingdoms, scattered over a hundred worlds? Poor little Pinocchio is suffering seriously divided loyalties between his father, the Adversary, and his fellow Fable refugees in the Mundy world. What does he do while his father hosts a secret conference of the imperial elite to decide the ultimate fate of Fabletown? Plus, this issue contains the first of four short self-contained backup stories featuring Rapunzel.
Geppetto's conference of imperial leaders continues in the Homelands as they discuss the ultimate fate of Fabletown. The Nome King wants war, Prince Hansel wants reprisals, and the Snow Queen wants a program of assassination. Will anyone argue for diplomacy? Plus, a backup story by Joshua Middleton!
Hansel has been selected by The Adversary to be his personal envoy to Fabletown. There's just one problem: Hansel is not a nice man. But someone has to free Baba Yaga and the captured Wooden Soldiers from the Woodland before the Empire's invasion of the mundy world can begin--and Hansel's just the Fable for the job!
The Homelands' conference is wrapping up and the drums of war are beginning to sound. It looks like insignificant Pinocchio is the only one who can stop it--if he can convince the others to stand down. If only Pinocchio didn't have the oratory skills of an underachieving cinderblock...
It's FABLES' first-ever special Christmas issue, which seeks to answer a burning question: Does Santa Claus really exist? And if so, is he a Fable? Well, we're not going to tell you here, or there wouldn't be any reason for you to buy the issue, now, would there? So don't be naughty--be nice, and wait patiently for this extra-length issue to appear in your stocking.
Part 1 of the 2-part "Father and Son," featuring phenomenal art by Mike Allred (Madman). As tensions continue to heat up between Fabletown and the Empire, Bigby reluctantly decides it's finally time to square accounts with his long-estranged father, the North Wind. Bigby may not like him, but since he is the grandfather of his cubs, who seem to adore the old man, a trip home seems to be in order. So Snow and Bigby and all six (seven?) kids make the journey to the North Wind's keep.
Concluding the 2-part "Father and Son," featuring phenomenal art by Mike Allred (Madman). Bigby, Snow and the entire flock of cubs are back in the homelands, visiting Bigby's dad at the North Wind's Keep. Snow has put her foot down, demanding that Bigby work out his differences with his father, so that the cubs can have their beloved granddad back in their lives. But some sins aren't easy to forgive.

And being Fables, we're going to answer those questions with a series of funny, entertaining, short-short stories, illustrated by an amazing assortment of artists including Eric Shanower (Age of Bronze) and Barry Kitson (SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES).
