As Chris Robinson announces his retirement from being Star, Horde assumes control of the Vicious Circle, much to the distress of Powerhouse, who quits the team. Dragon, who has discovered he is multi-lingual, returns home with a date, where he is attacked by Dung and Chaos & Control.
After establishing the basic organizational, administrative, and training aspects of S.O.S. over several months, the team is sent on their first mission - to investigate sections of American land that are being replaced by portions of "Darkworld," a war-ravaged planet ruled by the villainous Darklord.
As She-Dragon successfully ends a Vicious Circle crime wave, Chris Robinson is dumped by Alex Wilde when he learns that he was Star. The battle between Dragon, Smasher, Thor, Herakles, and several other creatures is ended by Allgod, a near-omnipotent manifestation of the planet's 'Elder Gods.'
Super-Tough and Mace are re-united, and it is revealed that the two were lovers. Soon afterwards, an Atlantean army leads a very unsuccessful invasion of the Earth's surface. Cyberface (in BrainiApe's body AND in Overlord's armour) and his allies battle several Vicious Circle agents, a fight that is interrupted by both Dragon and the new Deadly Duo: Kill-Cat and Beast Boy. Before Dragon can defeat Cyberface, they are held at gunpoint by Hitler's brain.
After Dragon and the Chicago branch of S.O.S. prevent BrainiApe and a group of neo-Nazis from seizing Chicago City Hall, Barbaric and several Police officers take Dragon to a strip club for his bachelor party, where the festivities are interrupted by someone who appears to be Rapture, who claims to have been transformed into pure energy when she was "killed" by Darklord, and inhabited the body of her friend (and recent S.O.S. recruit) Lightning.
After an unsuccesful get-together at William & Rita's where Angel insults their ugly child, she and Dragon are visited by Mighty Man / Ann Stevens. Follwing the revelation that Dragon and Alex are once again 'involved,' Dragon answers a Police report detailing a bank robbery. While confronting the villain in question, Dragon and an innocent bystander fall victim to the crook's weapon - a leftover Martian shrinking ray.
Angered that she cannot receive a commitment from Dragon, Alex apparently 'dumps' him at his house - where he then finds Powerhouse waiting for him. Dragon and Powerhouse then engage in a furious and prolonged battle, all the while debating their respective ideologies.
After the Atlantean escapes from prison, and Rita Medermade's twins are kidnapped by Covenant agents, Mighty Man and Dragon align with Powerhouse in exchange for information about the Covenant. Meanwhile, in prison, Negate removes Bludgeon's powers, shortly before becoming kidnapped himself.
Dragon awakens next to the corpse of the young Damien Darklord in a burning lot. Much to his dismay, he discovers that Chicago is a veritable wasteland, inhabited by scavengers and strange mutated creatues, all of whom seem to want him dead. While flying over the city on the back of a blue bat-winged creature, Dragon realizes that the world was his creation - by killing Damien Darklord, and preventing him from travelling to the past, somehow everything changed. He eventually finds his way to his former home - only to discover a huge crater where it once stood.
Dragon is attacked by a creature called Crustacean, but is rescued by a familiar face - a future version of WildStar, who has travelled to the present to prevent his younger self from being beaten. To prevent him from doing further damage to reality, Dragon attempts to stop him, but is unable to do so. Both versions of WildStar fill him in on the state of affairs - they tell him that 'cosmic cops,' Martians, and Gods took turns invading Earth, leaving it a broken planet, that SuperPatriot is a government pawn, that Mighty Man died with Robert Berman, that Freak Force is unheard of, and that Dragon himself had gone bezerk and destoryed half of the city. Dragon realizes that his mind must have somehow transferred into the head of the Dragon of this new reality - a head with a $25,000,000 bounty upon it.
Dragon is attacked by the robotic minions of Cyberface, who in this savage new world, seems to be a nanite-based entity living within all computer systems. Dragon barely manages to escape his clutches, and is forced to steal from corpses and abandoned stores for food, clothing, and money. As he attempts to get some rest in an empty cellar, his mind is invaded by the worm-like parasites of a mutated infant who feeds on Dragon's nightmares. After Dragon awakens, he does battle with, and buries the Brain-Child under tons of rubble, he leaves the scene with four young women, the creature's former captives.
While sleeping, Dragon and the young women under his care are attacked by a gigantic maggot. Dragon manages to tear its tongue out, but before he and his companions can dine on its carcass, the meat is stolen by Rita Medermade, who has been enlarged to 60-feet in height by a Martian shrinking ray during the invasion a few years prior. The battle against the crazed Medermade is joined by the vigilante Star - who in this savage new world is none other than former Police Officer William Jonson, who lets Dragon in on why there is such a huge bounty on his head - because of a failed assassination attempt on King Khan, aka Cyberface. Dragon is then captured by Cyberface's minions, but not before he can return Rita to her normal height and mental capacity.
Traveling with Neutron Bob, Dragon finds his way to Chicago to enlist the help of the Vicious Circle in defeating Cyberface. When he arrives, he is attacked and forced underground, losing Bob along the way. Underground, he finds Rock, Feezle, Beast Boy and Widow, but in this reality, they have never met. Dragon tries to enlist their help, but they decide to not help Dragon. He wanders off in search of Pipe Town and the Vicious Circle and is attacked along the way by Dale Fisher, who has been mutated by someone known as "The Creator."
