An editorial by Perry White reveals how a small group of the world's greatest heroes raised his city from the ruins after the Fall of Metropolis, and Collin Thornton is revealed to be a guise of the hellish villain, Lord Satanus. Clark once more receives the ominous message "I know," this time on his computer monitor at work.
Still in deep space, Superman encounters Auron, the superpowered clone of Guardian (first seen in SUPERMAN "The Legacy of Superman" (1993) #1), who possesses some of Superman's DNA. Together they battle an alien malevolence, but Auron is felled by something far more insidious--something connected to Superman himself.
