A genealogical dictionary of our early colonists. Every volume shows three generations of those who came before 1692. Although more than a century has elapsed since the publication of this monumental work, it remains the standard to our day. We do not mean that new information has not been unearthed or that the work is free from errors, but Savage had just the peculiar qualifications necessary. He was so persistent in gathering data and so conservative in his use of them, that a statement made on his authority bears great weight. This work has the whole of New England for its field.

The Algonquin Park Act was passed by the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario in the year 1893. Thus the goal of Alexander Kirkwood was achieved after many years of study, research and persistent representation. Kirkwood was ably assisted by James Dickson, who surveyed the area of the proposed park. Even before the park was established, the men who knew the region were enchanted by its woods and waters. In one of his reports Dickson wrote -- ""As we float along the streams or skim over the calm water of the lakelets almost every stroke of the paddle unfolds some new scene of rural beauty seldom equalled in any part of our fair province, and to paint them all in their pristine beauty would take the most gifted pen or pencil of either author or artist.""
