The Boy from Chopwell is an enlivened version of the author's family history. Starting in Vladivostok where a strange series of events befall Eric, he then attempts to discover his family history. When he visits Kemerovo in Siberia it becomes clear some of his family migrated there in the 1930s. As he traces his family history the reason for his political repression by the British authorities becomes clear. England is not a free country.
