Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm and Wilhelm Carl Grimm, born in 1785 and 1786 respectively, spent years in collecting folk tales. They published Children’s and Household Tales in 1812, a collection which came to be known as ‘Grimm’s Fairy Tales’. It included some of the world’s most famous stories, like Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin. The brothers’ motivation behind collecting fairy tales was a determination to preserve German folktales. Today, their stories are loved and read in more than 160 languages.
