เนื้อความแห่งปัญหาหนึ่ง ๆ ที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงแล้วผู้ใดพึงปฏิบัติตามก็พึงจากฝั่งนี้ไปถึงฝั่งโน้นได้ ธรรมปริยายนั้นเป็นทางเพื่อไปสู่ฝั่งโน้น เพราะฉะนั้น ธรรมปริยายนี้จึงชื่อว่าปรายนะ
เนื้อความแห่งปัญหาหนึ่ง ๆ ที่พระพุทธเจ้าทรงแสดงแล้วผู้ใดพึงปฏิบัติตามก็พึงจากฝั่งนี้ไปถึงฝั่งโน้นได้ ธรรมปริยายนั้นเป็นทางเพื่อไปสู่ฝั่งโน้น เพราะฉะนั้น ธรรมปริยายนี้จึงชื่อว่าปรายนะ
