《緞子鞋》（1928）是法國詩人、劇作家、外交官克羅岱爾的畢生代表作。劇情主軸鋪展一段不可能的戀情，融歷史、政治、神學、哲學、歷險與神怪為一體，可謂廿世紀的「人世戲劇」，總演出時間長達12個小時，內容博大精深，氣勢雄渾恢宏，詩文瑰麗壯闊，聲韻鏗鏘有力，編劇突破演出局限，大膽雜糅不同語調，從莊嚴肅穆到笑鬧戲仿無一不備，完全違反法與文學嚴格的區分，不僅如此，滑稽古怪的第四幕還完全推翻前三幕的一切！劇作出版當年，法國文壇為之震驚，可見劇本走在時代之先，每回公演都是劇壇的盛事。
全書首論克羅岱爾從《正午的分界》（1906）到《緞子鞋》的寫作與搬演歷程；其次採戲劇符號學方法解析安端．維德志導演版（1987）為主要內容；最後析論此劇在法國、德國、瑞士與奧地利的其他重要演出。書末附錄劇本分景摘要。
