맞닿은 입술 사이로 그의 목소리가 낮게 새어나왔다.
“당신을 받아들이는 게 아니……었는데. 그랬다면 당신 눈치 따위 안 봤을 거잖아……. 마음 다칠까 봐 전전긍긍……하지도 않았을 거고, 울 것 같은 그따위 표정 안 봐도 되었……잖아.”
울분을 토해내는 듯한 그의 탁한 목소리에서 혼란스러움이 고스란히 전해져왔다.
‘화를 내야 하는데……. 화를 내야 해.’
그런데 화를 낼 수 없었다. 거칠고 음울한 눈동자 속에 갇힌 그의 상처가 보여서, 그 상처가 낯설지 않아서 화를 낼 수가 없었다. 그것은 그녀 자신의 상처이기도 했다.
그래서 그런 걸까?
버둥거리던 연희의 몸에서 자신도 모르게 힘이 빠져나갔다. 연희는 준혁의 등을 때리던 주먹을 스르르 풀고 그의 등을 감싸 안았다. 그리고 그의 입맞춤을 받아들였다.
