About this ebook

The year 2022 witnessed many important developments both domestically and internationally.

After briefly catching its breath following the COVID-19 pandemic, the international community was forced to face the devastating consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war. The economic impact of the increasingly violent war led to record high energy prices and, consequently, record high inflation rates.

The death of Queen Elizabeth II of England, who held the title of longest-reigning monarch with a 70-year reign, and the grand funeral ceremony held in her honor were among the most closely followed events of 2022. The killing of Al Jazeera senior correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli fire sparked outrage around the world.

The year 2022 went down in history as a year in which Türkiye implemented projects that brought honor to the country. The opening of the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge and the Rize-Artvin Airport, which are among the world's leading infrastructure projects, as well as advances in military technology, were developments that elevated Türkiye to a different class and made the nation proud. With the launch of Türkiye's domestically produced automobile, Togg, a 60-year-old dream became a reality, while mega projects like the İstanbul Airport became Europe's busiest airport, setting numerous records.

Following the Bayraktar and Akıncı platforms, Türkiye's first unmanned combat aircraft, Kızılelma, developed by Baykar with its own resources in a national and original manner, made a splash around the world as a breakthrough that will go down in military history with its superior capabilities. The Hürkuş basic training aircraft, one of Turkey's most important and original technology projects, attracted great interest abroad.

The discovery of rich energy resources in various regions of the country was also among the good news of 2022.

This almanac serves as a visual and written witness and summary of the events that marked 2022, particularly the Russia-Ukraine war.
