About this ebook

The First Ten Years brings together the most striking images from the last ten years of the İstanbul Photo Awards, an international news photography competition organized by Anadolu Ajansı, the global news agency for over a century. Supported by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), this special issue includes the photographs that won awards and made it to the finals between 2015 and 2024, as well as jury evaluations.

Since its inaugural year, the İstanbul Photo Awards has attracted more than 18,000 photojournalists from around the world with more than 125,000 photographs, and has become an important platform for showcasing impactful photographs that capture global events and moments of profound humanitarian significance. Each year, the competition highlights the powerful stories behind images covering topics such as war, protests, natural disasters, sporting events and everyday life.

The book includes the top three photographs from each category, as well as information about the stories behind the images. It also presents the finalists' photos, giving readers a broader perspective on the competition's diverse and engaging entries.

A tribute to the power of photojournalism to capture the essence of the human experience, The First Ten Years offers readers an intimate look at some of the most memorable and poignant images of the last decade.
