Try As I Smite is book 4 in the Brimstone Inc. series and can be read as a standalone. However, as an addendum to that, the main female lead plays an important role in all of the previous books, so you'll find her more rounded (and honestly be much more invested in her) if you've read the last three. Not necessary, though. Written in third person omniscient from both characters' perspectives. Finally! I was so excited to finally get Delilah's story! Our fearsome (and fearless!) matchmaking queen meets her match, despite her kicking and screaming against it. I love the irony in that. Alasdair was a perfect counterbalance to her. They're both serious about their work and keeping the world at large safe, so getting to watch them find something for themselves was really good for my squishy heart. This might well be the most action packed of the whole series. Lots of magic within! All the books are fairly short, but Mrs. Owen manages to make their stories full and rich, despite that. The way these two worked each other was a perfect portrayal of awesome storytelling being possible without an excess of fluff. Don't get me wrong, this is a romance, so 'fluff' is there, just not the over-wordy type. If you like your romance with fantasy, wizards, demons, a bite of steam, some meant to be loves that win against odds, and a good dose of action, this is a fantastic read to pick up!

Loved this paranormal spin on A Christmas Carol. Smite is a quick read full of humor, steam, action and emotion. This is my first book by this author but I'll definitely be looking for more.
