La storia si riferisce ad un tragico fatto realmente accaduto la sera del 13 gennaio 2012, l'incidente alla nave da crociera Concordia. Il libro non indaga sulle colpe che possono aver causato il naufragio bensì si sofferma sulle sofferenze umane, che talora hanno portato alla morte. Nel racconto, ispirato a fatti realmente accaduti, l'autore inserisce un insolito, ipotetico protagonista che sicuramente non era a bordo, un piccolo cane che muore tra atroci dolori provocandone altrettanti alle persone care. Una storia inventata parallela a quelle reali per dare ancora più forza e tragicità alla cronaca degli eventi.
