Fabulous resource! As for the user who eloquently penned the one-word review, "sucks," I wish he could articulate his dissatisfaction a little more clearly.....but I adore this book. It is 900 pages of sheer fabulosity. Overly detailed? Yes! More than you ever wanted to know about Chicago between 1870-1880? Probably. But Mr. Andreas preserved a snapshot of this magnificent city that is utterly amazing in its exhaustive detail. This is not a book intended to be read cover-to-cover....but for cataloging the historical record, we owe Mr. Alfred Theodore Andreas (great name, BTW) a huge debt. This book was a labor of love. I have downloaded and consulted it again and again when I need some arcane piece of Chicago trivia. Beautiful etchings as well.
