Once again I have devoured an Alison James book in a couple of days. And again, it is worthy of a full 5 stars. The Friendship Pact is a domestic thriller, centred around Lucy, a seemingly blessed housewife. Married to a cardiac surgeon, with a beautiful home, and a life full of social gathering, it soon becomes apparent that all is not as it seems, and we witness her struggle to escape a controlling and dangerous husband. The book then goes back in time to Lucy’s school days, and a pact she made with friend Adele decades ago, a friend that her family never approved of. An incident on one of their adventures leads to an everlasting connection that can never be spoken of. Will reconnecting with Adele be the escape she needs? It seems to be Lucy’s only option, but will this be her downfall or her saving? I enjoyed the way it went back and forth chronologically, and each time you learnt something new, or a twist hit you! Sometimes I don’t enjoy stories jumping back and forth as it can be confusing, but in this case it worked very well and only aided the story. There are plenty of twists and turns in this book and it kept me guessing throughout, I was thoroughly pleased with them all and enjoyed it immensely. This book was well written, with fully developed characters. I would highly recommend and I can’t wait for Alison’s next book to be written (despite this one not yet being out for general release!) Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and Alison James for my advance copy, in return for an honest review.

Wow!!! This is the first book I read by this author and it did not disappoint. This is a stand alone novel so you don’t have to read other books in a series. I can’t wait to read more of her books. This book is about a friendship and secrets that spill into adulthood. Lucy is married to a man who is controlling and abusive and wants to escape. The only way she knows how is to use a past pact she made with her best friend but she’s wondering if she made the right decision. She gets tangled up in a web of lies and deception. Lucy finds out in the end the past always comes back to haunt you. I have to say that I really loved this book. I really liked how all the characters intertwined with each other especially at the end. I also liked the authors depiction of Lucy. At first you don’t know what to think about Lucy. She takes the abuse of her awful husband but then she really grows as the book goes on and becomes stronger. Oh and the plot was awesome. Who doesn’t love a book about an abusive man who gets what he deserves. The great twists never stopped coming in this book either. There were so many twists by the end that you were glued to the pages as you never knew what was coming next. Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

After reading the blurb for this story I knew that I had to read this book. The Friendship Pact is an engrossing standalone novel that will have you hooked from the start, and will keep you on the edge of your seat till the thrilling finale. Told from the present day to the past, the story follows Lucy and Adele’s unlikely friendship from when they were tweens, and how one tragic event, ties them together forever. The characters of Lucy and Adele in the past, could not be more chalk and cheese. Lucy comes from a wealthy family, where Adele is from the wrong side of the tracks. Alison does a good job at conveying that just because they are not cut from the same cloth, doesn’t mean their friendship was not a solid one and their bond at the start is unbreakable. But after the tragic events on that summer’s day, the girls are separated, and their friendship comes to an end, but not before they make a pact that will keep what they witnessed that day just between the two of them for the rest of their lives. When we are taken to the present, as older women, there is not much difference to them. Lucy has it all with wealth, a beautiful home and a husband who is a well respected cardiac surgeon. But what goes on behind closed doors is very different to how her life is portrayed to the outside world. For Adele, she still lives in the town where they grew up, is a single mother of two children and has a police record convicted of fraud. After a chance meeting when Lucy returns to their hometown, she asks for Adele’s help in escaping from her husband, but it may just end up being the worst mistake that Lucy has ever made! This is the first book I have read from Alison. I enjoyed her writing style and how she was able to build up enough suspense to keep me enthralled and reading well into the night. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more of Alison’s work. Thank-you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Alison James for allowing me to read an advance copy of The Friendship Pact in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and are not biased in anyway.
