About this ebook

In this gripping sequel to When the Rabbit Jumps, Lucas, a troubled young teen, and Jarrod, an escaped convict, are on the run once again, this time through Southwestern Ontario and the American Midwest. Both of them are attempting to escape not only the authorities but also a past they would rather forget.

Separated after a snowmobiling accident that almost proves fatal for Lucas, Jarrod finds himself in a gloomy jail, facing a litany of charges initiated by a vengeful sheriff. After his inexplicable recovery while in the care of an Ontario Indigenous community, Lucas feels compelled to continue his journey. Aided by a series of colourful characters, many of whom are homeless misfits like himself, he and Jarrod are eventually reunited. They continue their eventful journey, with little hope that it will lead to a satisfying ending.

Along the way, Lucas and Jarrod help a number of complete strangers who find themselves in trouble. Despite their good intentions, will the two fugitives ever find the contentment and happiness they’re looking for?

About the author

It's fitting that Allan Mowat’s first two novels would take the form of a travelogue, since he has spent much of his adult life “on the road.” Those who know him would consider “Wanderer” an appropriate middle name. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Allan has travelled extensively for pleasure and as a tournament bridge player. He also has significant experience working with at-risk boys through Big Brothers and other programs, so it was inevitable that such a character would find its way into his books. However, Allan insists he has no firsthand experience as a fugitive from the law! He has always had an active imagination, and he is pleased to have finally channeled it into his books.

Allan splits his time between Winnipeg and Rancho Mirage, California, accompanied by his cat, Marion. When he’s not writing, he enjoys camping, biking, boating, and spending time outdoors.
