Am I a murderer? You tell me . . .

Lucy Chase can’t remember anything about the night her best friend was murdered.
Lucky her, you’re probably thinking. Who would want that to be their last memory of someone they love?
But for Lucy, it’s become an issue.

Because everyone thinks she did it.

But that was five years ago, and Lucy has put it all behind her. Or at least, she thought she had, until an interfering yet not bad-looking podcaster offers her the opportunity to join his investigation into the night she forgot.

On the one hand, if she’s a murderer, it's probably better to know – right? On the other, if she didn’t do it, she’ll be putting herself back in the sights of the person who did.

And either way, if you’ve already killed once, what’s to stop you from doing it again?

Get ready to be obsessed with this funny and thrilling new murder mystery, perfect for fans of MURDER IN THE FAMILY by Cara Hunter, NONE OF THIS IS TRUE by Lisa Jewell, and HOW TO KILL YOUR FAMILY by Bella Mackie.

Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera is a fast-paced, twisty, and surprisingly funny read that had me hooked from the first page. Despite dealing with some heavy subject matter—including murder, memory loss, and small-town secrets—the novel manages to maintain a light, engaging tone thanks to its sharp writing and memorable characters. The main character, Lucy, is a standout. She's an unreliable narrator due to her amnesia following a blow to the head on the night her best friend was murdered—but that's what makes her so compelling. Her voice is witty, sarcastic, and deeply human. I found myself rooting for her, even while questioning what she might be hiding from herself. One of the highlights of the book was Lucy’s grandmother—a hilarious, no-nonsense character who adds levity and warmth. The relationship between them is a real joy to read. I also appreciated the dual perspective structure, particularly the podcast episodes interwoven with Lucy’s narrative. It gave a fresh angle to the story and allowed a deeper insight into the characters, contrasting what was shown to the public versus what was really going on. The plot twist genuinely surprised me, which is rare in a genre where twists are expected. Tintera keeps the suspense high while still offering plenty of character depth. In short, Listen for the Lie is an entertaining and original mystery with heart and humour. A thoroughly enjoyable read that I'd recommend to fans of true crime, unreliable narrators, or anyone who loves a good mystery with a side of sass.

Smart, dark, comedy-meets-murder mystery. Is a podcast investigation thriller my new favourite trope? Is it even a trope? If it is, add it to my list of auto reads! I'm bloody hooked 🪝

It was a bit long-winded, but interesting. I found it hard to like Lucy and Savvy or most of the characters. However, the grandma was great.
