About this ebook

From NY Times Bestselling Author, Angie Fox, the first book in the USA TODAY bestselling Southern Ghost Hunter series

5 Stars! ā€œSouthern charm, a haunting mystery, and a leading lady I want as my BFF!ā€

One simple mistakeā€¦

When out of work graphic designer Verity Long accidentally traps a ghost on her property, sheā€™s saddled with more than a supernatural sidekickā€”she gains the ability see spirits. It leads to an offer she canā€™t refuse from the townā€™s bad boy, who also happens to be the brother of her ex and the last man she should ever partner with.

Ellis Wydell is in possession of a stunning historic property haunted by some of Sugarland Tennesseeā€™s finest former citizens. Only some of them are growing restlessā€”and destructive. He hires Verity to put an end to the disturbances. But soon, Verity learns thereā€™s more to the mysterious estate than floating specters, secret passageways, and hidden rooms.

Thereā€™s a modern day mystery afoot, one that hinges on a decades-old murder. Verity isn't above questioning the living, or the dead. But can she discover the truth before the killer finds her?

I haven't read anything by Angie Fox before, but I really enjoyed this story, and the narrating by Tavia Gilbert was fabulous, so lifelike and quite hysterical in parts! Verity owns a lovely Southern property, left to her by her grandmother, but she is having to sell it because she is being sued by her mother-in-law/ex-fiancee when she left him (the lying, cheating rat) at the altar. She told him she didn't want to marry him, but he refused to listen and so when she stood him up she was the one in the wrong that everyone blamed. Then when clearing out an ugly old urn that Verity had been given by her ex she finds out that the muck inside was in fact ashes, and she has released ghost mobster Frank! He ends up helping her find some long lost cash in a haunted house and whilst there (grappling with the eccentric old woman who owns the land and is using her shotgun to scare her off, along with coping with nasty spirits in the haunted house) along comes Ellis, her ex-fiancee's brother, also a cop. She ends up telling him about the ghosts, although doesn't actually think he believes her. But then he comes back to her asking her to rid an estate he plans on developing of the ghosts there, and they come to an agreement, and then get into no amount of trouble with the various ghosts including his dead Uncle who he originally bought the property with. This was an extremely entertaining and quite funny book with a mystery running through it that I really, really enjoyed! I look forward to reading/listening to the rest of the series.

action-adventure, audiobook, crooks, dogs, e-book, fiction, friendship, ghosts, historical-places-events, historical-figures, humor, law-enforcement, murder, mystery, myths-legends, pets, print-copy, relationships, suspense, thugs, women-sleuths***** Found this on BookGorilla for cheap, and it was so good that I want more of this series! Local graphic designer gets on the wrong side of local *royalty* and is now penniless, has good friends and supportive family, but has a pet skunk (?). Next, she acquires the ghost of a gangster from the Prohibition era, and attracts the unwilling attention of a local deputy who has unwillingly come to believe that a ghost is causing destruction in the former distillery he is renovating, and he wants to hire her ghost whispering services. There's lots more, including murder, attempted murder, more ghosts, and real danger from a live perp. Mystery and suspense for sure, but lots of humor and no real horror or gratuitous

More interesting than I gave it credit for. The general ghost theme wasn't to my liking but overall, the story was enjoyable--so much so that I bought the second book if only to see how Verity and Ellis's relationship would play out.
