About this ebook

A morose parrot with a reputation for biting perches in a small cage  in the lobby of Brookside Retirement Community. For Josephine, a reluctant resident, he sums up the place which friend and handwriting expert, Lill, has dubbed Babbling Brook (in honor of the missing waterway and the more exasperating residents). However, Brookside turns out to be more interesting than Josephine expected, as it becomes the setting for art theft, other dodgy dealings, and…naked poker. Investigating the unusual events, Josephine and Lill befriend Devi Subramanian, a young woman Josephine tries to prevent from making the same mistakes she has made.

The device of having each separate chapter told by a different protagonist actually worked. Each character was well fleshed out and I grew to care for them and understand them. Some were villians but not cardboard ones. Even their bizzare actions came to make sense. This is much better novel than the typical cozy. It was was very good novel more concerned with telling a good story than plotting out a mystery. I love forward to reading more about Josephine, Devi, Mac, and Lillian.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The writer helps the reader to connect with her characters to the point that you feel a part of the story. I felt happiness and anger. I was afraid for the main character. So many twists. Good research of senior homes. My aunt was in a home and I could relate to the story. The tasteless food, management that ignores issues brought to their attention, the different characteristics of fellow residents, stolen items.... lol. All true and yet the writer made this a very funny and enjoyable read. A senior definitely needs an advocate when living in these homes regardless of how much they pay monthly. Keep these books coming. Young and seniors would enjoy the ride of this book.
