A wonderful mystery and a fun story. Raina Sun, recently got married, bought a fixer-upper house, and found a body in the walls of that house. Due to the police investigation, work has stopped and their loan is in danger. In addition, the detective is an idiot who has his own agenda. Raina has no choice, but to investigate and find out who the body is, why it is in the wall, and who did the crime. The book is filled with well-written characters, great humor, great descriptions, and a plot that plays fair; pay attention and see if you can solve the crime. The character Po Po reminds me of my own grandmother in the way she steamrolls people. I highly recommend the entire series and this book in particular.

Do you love This Old House, and house flipping shows on TV? Newlyweds Raina and Matthew have just bought their first house together, and boy is it a fixer upper. More things can be hide behind old walls in addition to faulty wiring and old plumbing. When a long dead body falls out of a wall that Po Po has taken a sledgehammer to, the chase is on to solve the who and why. WTH Matthew away, and Po Po’s posse unavailable, it’s up to Raina and Po Po to solve the mystery before the house is repossessed for not being completed on time. Full disclosure, I did receive a review copy, BUT I had preordered the first day available, so I did pay for my book. I already have the next Lucy Fong on preorder to be released in May, and have already preordered the 10th Raina Sun, which will not be released until November next year. That’s how much I like this author and her two series.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! This was a great book ! Amidst the construction in her new house, Raina had to find a skeleton hiding behind the walls. Go figure! Now, it is a race against time to finish the remodeling + solve the case. If she does not finish the remodeling on time, her house will foreclosure again. Which means, that she had to wrap up this mystery case right away. Matthew cannot help, because if would conflict of interest. Now is up to Raina + Po Po to seek justice. Loved the characters + the storytelling ! It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book! I can't wait for the next book in this series.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT ANNE

1. I can't resist ice cream.

2. I started my first book a month after I had my first baby.

3. And now that she's seven, I brainstorm story ideas with my girl.

4. Instead of reading to my children, I make up stories round-robin style with my children at bedtime.

5. I secretly want Raina Sun's life.

A NOTE FROM ANNE:

My books are my legacy to my children. Unfortunately, they won't grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area as I did. Without a cultural hub to keep the language and philosophies alive, our family will lose this part of our heritage in one generation. My children will be visitors to this rich culture just like my readers. I hope you'll enjoy your time with Raina Sun and her large dynamic family.
