The book 'Khake' portrays some of the most famous personalities of contemporary Urdu Literature like Maqdoom Mohiuddin, Alam Khundmeri, Kazi Saleem, Aziz Qaisi, Mughni Tabassum, Waheed Akhtar, Shahryar, Jeelani Bano and others. Through Life-Sketches or 'Khake', Awaz Sayeed attempted to bring out the external and internal traits of these important Urdu litterateurs with many unknown or not so known facts about their life and work, thus serving as an important biographical work.

The book 'Khake' was originally published in 1985.  The second reprint of the book was published in June 2006 by Urdu Academy, Jeddah and was released by Shri Arjun Singh, the then Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India.  The entire volume formed part of the book 'Kulliyat-e-Awaz Sayeed' published by Educational Publishing House, New Delhi in 2009 and released by Mr Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Vice-President of India.

About the author

Awaz Sayeed (6th December 1933-2nd July, 1995) was a renowned modern Urdu short-story writer, poet, Khaka-navees and playwright from Hyderabad, India. He was known for his unique, innovative and inimitable style of short story writing. He is counted among the few modern Urdu writers of the Indian sub-continent, who have given a new meaning to Urdu short-stories.

Awaz Sayeed’s first Urdu Afsana (short-story) “Jeetey Jaagtey” was published in 1949 in ‘Nizam-e-Lahore’. Thereafter, several of his stories have been published in reputed Urdu magazines of the Indian Sub-continent such as ‘Nuqoosh’, ‘Seep’, ‘Shabkhoon’, ‘Sher-O-Hikmat’, ‘Tanazur’, ‘Jadeed Adab’, ‘Sabras’, ‘Zehn-e-Jadeed’, ‘The Shair’ and others.
