Degene die hem aanraakt, staat voor een noodlottige keuze – of hij zal worden vervuld van onmetelijk geluk en eeuwige liefde, of hij zal worden meegesleurd in de afgrond van lijden en duisternis. Wat is het geheim van de ring? Draagt hij een vloek, of hangt alles af van de mens die hem bezit?
Wonderen bestaan – we hoeven alleen maar te geloven.

Barry Cussel is a Dutch-Bulgarian writer, artist, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, recognized as a multifaceted creator with international acclaim. Since 1990, he has lived in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, working under the pseudonym Barry Cussel. He is the author of novels inspired by mysticism, fantasy, and magical realism, as well as numerous documentary films and journalistic publications.
Biography and Early Life
Barry Cussel was born in 1958. From an early age, he displayed a passion for art and literature, engaging in painting, writing short stories, and experimenting with sculpture.
Barry Cussel began his artistic career in Leiden, dedicating himself to painting and sculpture. He organized several successful exhibitions, showcasing works characterized by symbolism, expressiveness, and deep philosophical concepts. His unique style attracted the attention of critics and collectors, with his artwork finding a place in both private and public collections.
In 2005, together with his wife Doris Cussel, he founded the online publication Emigrant-BG, which operated until 2017. The platform became one of the leading sources of information for Bulgarians abroad, publishing news, analyses, interviews, and cultural articles.
He actively collaborated with local and international media, writing articles on Bulgarian emigration, cultural identity, and global literary and artistic trends. He also participated in international media forums organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), presenting analyses on cultural processes within the diaspora.
Technology, Film, and Digital Art
In 2000, he trained as an internet engineer in Arnhem and later specialized in computer graphics and filmmaking. This allowed him to merge his passion for art with technology, creating interactive digital projects, visual installations, and film productions.
For 15 years, he worked as a programmer and software engineer in various companies, primarily in the banking sector. Despite his technical profession, he continued to create, establishing his own company, which he continues to manage today.
Since 2014, he has been part of the EYE Film Museum in Amsterdam, participating in cultural and educational initiatives related to cinema.
In 2015, he produced the documentary series Biographical Profiles of Famous Bulgarians in the Netherlands (13 episodes), featuring inspiring stories of successful Bulgarian emigrants. A year later, he created the film The Netherlands, My Second Homeland, which was presented at the Amsterdam Central Library. The film explores the experiences of emigrants and the cultural exchange between Bulgaria and the Netherlands.
Literary Career
Fantasy, Mysticism, and Magical Realism
In 1996, Barry Cussel published his debut novel, The Blood of the Black Tulip, which received widespread acclaim. In 2005, the book was translated into English, distributed in Dutch bookstores, and published on Amazon. Critics described it as "a powerful novel, on par with the works of Stephen King," marking a new phase in Dutch speculative fiction.
In 2015, he released The Mystery of the Lost Ring, a magical novel intertwining historical realities, mythology, and paranormal phenomena. Four years later, in 2019, he published its sequel, Hell 1666 Amsterdam, which delves deeper into themes of fate, karma, and the mysterious forces that govern the world.
In 2020, his wife Doris Cussel narrated both novels, producing an audiobook of over 50 hours, making his work accessible to an international audience.
That same year, Barry Cussel began work on a new large-scale project—his novel Paradise 2020 Amsterdam, which promises to be an epic work combining historical events, futurism, and philosophical ideas.
