About the author

Bernard T. Lewis is a recognized leader in facilities management and the author of McGraw-Hill’s Facility Manager’s Operation and Maintenance Handbook and Facility Manager’s Portable Handbook. Dr. Lewis owns and manages a facilities management consultant firm that specializes in facilities engineering management problem-solving. His clients have included the Charles E. Smith Companies, Georgetown University, George Washington University, and the Port Authority of New York. A member of the Association of Facilities Engineers, Dr. Lewis teaches engineering management, lectures on facilities management nationally and internationally, and is the author of 21 books and numerous magazine articles on facilities management and engineering. A West Point graduate in civil/mechanical engineering, he holds an M.A. in mathematics from Columbia University and a Ph.D. from Pacific Western University. Richard P. Payant has more than 7 years of experience as Director of Facilities Management at Georgetown University and more than 23 years’ experience with the Army Corps of Engineers. A certified plant engineer and facility manager, an adjunct professor at George Mason, and the author of several professional publications, he has an M.A. in business management/public administration from Central Michigan University and a B.S. from Norwich University.
