About this ebook

The owner and three passengers of The Volkswagen Van first meet in Amsterdam in front of the American Express office in the summer of 1972. They share an unquenchable thirst for adventure and on a whim, agree to travel fourteen thousand miles going overland on the hippie trail to India. Tony Toscano, a sociopath and owner of the van, is determined at all costs to smuggle drugs from Afghanistan and never tells the other riders of his intentions. Like many others of that day, the young passengers, Murray Delanie, Aeril Weinstein, and her French boyfriend, Pierre Bonnaire, are all very naive to the customs of Asia and face unpredictable circumstances that will endanger themselves and change their lives forever. Not only do drugs play a major role in what happens to them, but the sex trade of Asia threatens Aerial’s very existence.

About the author

From 1970 to 1976, Bill Girvin traveled overland across many continents exploring the far-reaching corners of our world. He kept daily journals of those adventures that had been misplaced for over forty years. Those lost writings were eventually uncovered at the bottom of an old steamer trunk buried beneath steps in his garage and later converted into five nonfiction books. Those journals were life changing in nature, filled with experiences that deserved to be remembered and passed down to generations to come. The Volkswagen Van was based in part on one of those journeys, going fourteen thousand miles one way, overland to India from Amsterdam, Holland, in a Volkswagen van. Bill has always considered life itself to be the greatest gift of all. He continues to encourage everyone to “cast it all to the wind” and discover who they are on whichever twisting road they choose to follow.
