What if damnation is the price of true love?

Innocent blood has been spilled on the steps of the Council Hall, the sacred stronghold of the Shadowhunters. Their society now teeters on the brink of civil war. One fragment of the Blackthorn family flees to Los Angeles, seeking to discover the source of the disease that is destroying the race of warlocks. Meanwhile, Julian and Emma take desperate measures to put their forbidden love aside and undertake a perilous mission to Faerie to retrieve the Black Volume of the Dead. What they find there is a secret that may tear the Shadow World asunder and open a dark path into a future they could never have imagined. Caught in a race against time, Emma and Julian must save the world of the Shadowhunters before a deadly curse destroys them and everyone they love.

Very little motion. The book was well written and the story is a continuation of the DA series but it was very slow to bear fruit. I am assuming it was supposed to build tension but sometimes it felt like your auntie catching you up on where her kids were going to college and who got their vaccinations. The story picked up dramatically in the last 200/250 pages. This could have been one large book with a more relevant series of short stories beforehand to get the location on some of our characters. I love your books Cassie and everyone whiffs it sometimes, it wasnt bad, it was just tedious.

what has happened to her writing? this is tedious to the extreme, filled with cliche, bad grammar and convoluted plot fillers. the dialogue is boring, the many story threads mostly improbable. I'll finish it because I cant leave a book or series unfinished but omg what a slog. I am surprised and disappointed.
