8 walks following the Pilgrims Routes of Britain. Giving history and extra information about some of our best known ancient routeways. A wonderful companion to these historical and spiritual walkways.
Take a person, a time and a place: say Canterbury in 597, St Augustine has just arrived and sets off walking. What is he thinking? How does he find his way across the country? What would he find when he arrived at the various places along the route? Using historical stories and vignettes Cecilia Baker has gathered together to follow his, and other, footsteps we can know him and his world a little better. We can follow his route today but thankfully not have to worry about wild boars, nor highway robbery (hopefully!), nor indeed of falling foul of the monarch or his henchmen as was very much a possibility in the past.
England is criss-crossed by a myriad of ancient routes that are being way-marked and walked for the first time in, often, hundreds of years, named after people who have gently faded into history. Through this book you can explore the rich heritage of England while enjoying these ancient paths. You will learn about these routes both from a geographical and historical, but also from a spiritual point of view.
Walking has never been more popular both to make us healthier and to enjoy the quality of life that we now crave. We are able to enjoy this pastime today in a way that was never possible in more ancient times. So put on comfortable shoes and take a raincoat, this is Britain after all, and start walking in the footsteps of our ancient ancestors.

A country girl at heart, Julia Bradbury's passion for walking and the great outdoors is a legacy from her dad and her childhood in rural Rutland and Sheffield where she went to school. She grew up exploring gently undulating hills and rugged green valleys.

Now a mother of three, Julia once more pulls on her hiking boots and goes in search of Britain's Best Walks with a View for ITV. Join her as she sets out along eight of the UK's best-loved paths, showcasing Britain's beauty and opening our eyes to the sights and sounds, the flora and fauna and the stories, past and present, of the places and people she passes on the way. At once a practical guide and a love letter to the British countryside, Unforgettable Walks shows why our all-weather love affair with walking is still going strong. Julia's footsteps take her through the whole spectrum of Britain's diverse and beautiful landscapes, from the Jurassic coast of Dorset and the rich history of the South Downs to the breathtaking scenery of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Funny, inspiring and packed with beguiling characters, join Julia as she criss-crosses the country in sun, wind and rain, in search of the perfect walk, the perfect view - and the perfect pub.

The essential guidebook to the 105-mile Tour of Mont Blanc trek in the Alps. One of the best of the world's classic walks, which circumnavigates the Mont Blanc massif in about eleven days through France, Switzerland and Italy. The walk has all the excitement of the high mountains yet none of the worry of altitude sickness. It crosses numerous cols with stunning views of spectacular snow and rock peaks and accommodation along the route is plentiful. The 'official' Tour du Mont Blanc follows an established route around the main block of mountains containing not only Mont Blanc but its principal allied summits such as Aiguille Verte, Aiguille du Chardonnet, Aiguille du Goûter, Dent du Géant, Grandes Jorasses, Aiguille d'Argentière, Mont Dolent and numerous others. The author describes the tour both in the traditional 'anti-clockwise' direction and the 'clockwise' direction. There are several alternative routes that subsequently link, and these are also described. The routes have been created to give the very best perspective and appreciation of the whole region. At every opportunity recommendations are made that will bring the walker into closer contact with the area. This guide is in full colour, with points of interest, accommodation details and overview maps for every stage, along with details of the natural and cultural history of the region. There are also routes around Courmayeur and Arnuva and to Lac Blanc, as well as essential practical information on travel to and around the Mont Blanc Massif, mountain safety, languages, currency and more. The result is an ideal companion to take on one of the world's greatest mountain adventures.
