This book is the first to take place in The Enemy series, and it does provide some origins to the things in the other books. It gives the origin to St. George, the people who saves Sam and The Kid at the end of The Enemy, and the kids that live in the Natural History Museum. The story is pretty good, kids in London try to survive adults that basically became zombies. Characters were good, but some deaths felt abrupt.

I love going back and seeing how everything began, I'm sure I would've loved it more if I had actually read them in the order of release, but I read whatever I could get of the series, which wasn't in order. In a way, it's cool that I read the fear and sacrifice before this, because I could go back and see how it all began. There were a few spoilers, but as I said I like to go back and find out how things got the way they are currently. Like finding out who St George was, or how ed got his scar.

One of the most suspensful and greatly detailed book I have ever read, one of the paragraphs was so greatly detailed it made me feel sick and that is a compliment, and this book was like 500 pages long and I finished it in 3 days, if your like horror movies read this book it will be so graphic u can actually picture it in your mind
