About this ebook

Higson's terrifying, utterly compelling prequel to The Enemy introduces an all-new cast of characters and sets the stage for a dramatic third book in the series.

The disease only affects people sixteen or older. It starts with the symptoms of a cold. Then the skin begins to itch, and spots appear—spots that soon turn into pus-filled boils. But the worst part is the headache, the inner voices that tell you that you need to eat them... the young ones.

When the Disaster strikes, the world turns upside down for Ed, Jack, Bam, and the other students at Rowhurst School. The parents and older siblings they left back at home are dead—or worse. Once the teachers go on the attack, the kids know it's time to escape and make their way to the city. It's got to be better in London...or will it be worse?

This book is the first to take place in The Enemy series, and it does provide some origins to the things in the other books. It gives the origin to St. George, the people who saves Sam and The Kid at the end of The Enemy, and the kids that live in the Natural History Museum. The story is pretty good, kids in London try to survive adults that basically became zombies. Characters were good, but some deaths felt abrupt.

I love going back and seeing how everything began, I'm sure I would've loved it more if I had actually read them in the order of release, but I read whatever I could get of the series, which wasn't in order. In a way, it's cool that I read the fear and sacrifice before this, because I could go back and see how it all began. There were a few spoilers, but as I said I like to go back and find out how things got the way they are currently. Like finding out who St George was, or how ed got his scar.

About the author

Charlie Higson is an acclaimed comedy writer, producer, actor, and genuine James Bond aficionado. He is the author of the adult thrillers, Full Whack and King of the Ants; the internationally best-selling Young Bond series: SilverFin, Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold, and By Royal Command; and two books in the Enemy series. Charlie is a fan of zombie movies and believes that we shouldn't try to prevent young people from experiencing fear, because it helps prepare them for later life. When writingThe Enemy, he kept rachetting up the action and description in an attempt to frighten the pants off his ten-year-old son. He lives in London.
