Detective Sergeant Chase Barrington has never forgotten the girl he fell in love with in high school. He and Josie Munro planned to marry as soon as they’d graduated. But fate stepped in and Chase made the painful decision to end it without telling Josie the truth…

When twelve-year-old Daniel Logan witnesses the rape of his mother, he grabs a gun and shoots the perpetrator dead. Chase attends the scene and Daniel’s arrested and charged with murder.

A decade after graduating high school, child psychologist Josie Munro has recently returned to her hometown. When she’s appointed by the court to provide a report on Daniel’s mental capacity, it’s inevitable that she runs into the detective on the case. Unaware of the real reason why Chase ended their relationship, her anger and grief from all those years ago immediately rise to the surface.

With no choice but to carry on and complete the task she’s been given, she determines to keep Chase as far away from her as possible and get the job over with as quickly as she can.

But things aren’t that easy. If her report proves Daniel knew that shooting the perpetrator was wrong, his matter will proceed to trial. If found guilty, he’s facing up to fifteen years in jail.

As Josie gets to know Daniel through therapy sessions, she realizes he knew exactly what he was doing: He meant to kill his mother’s rapist and he’s not at all sorry. She’s torn between doing what the law requires of her against what her heart knows is right. She’s also conflicted over her feelings for Chase. She wants to hate him, but she can’t.

Will she follow her head or her heart?

Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.

But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.

Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.

Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

From bestselling author B. A. Paris comes the gripping thriller and international phenomenon Behind Closed Doors.

Isobel Donnelly has a perfect life. Married to a renowned orthopedic surgeon, she also has a successful and satisfying career as a pediatric nurse at the prestigious Sydney Harbour Hospital. Life couldn’t get any better.

But then her babies arrive and the husband she adores turns into a cold and angry stranger. Her perfect world is shattered the first night he hits her.

Now, she’s trapped in a violent marriage with nowhere to turn. Her husband has threatened to kill her and the kids if she ever dares to leave. In public, they’re the perfect couple, but inside, she’s slowly dying…

Mason Alexander has relocated to the city to take up his dream job as a pediatric doctor at the prestigious Sydney Harbour Hospital. Recovering from a failed marriage, he’s determined to put the change of scene to good use. The distractions and demands of his new job are just what he needs to get his life back on track.

Then he runs into Isobel Donnelly and his world is once again turned upside down. He’s loved her since they were children. She’s the reason his marriage failed. But Isobel’s still married to his nemesis: the incomparable Nigel Donnelly. From all accounts, the two of them are still blissfully in love.

Vowing to steer clear of the woman who’s haunted his dreams for far too many years, Mason does his best to avoid her, but Isobel continues to seek him out and he can’t help but notice her assurances about her happy marriage appear a little forced.

When she arrives at work with a blackened eye, he’s immediately suspicious: There’s no way she fell over toys left in the way. The thought that Nigel might be abusing her is abhorrent, but the signs are there for all to see.

Will Mason be able to convince her to leave her husband…or will they both die trying?

The goal of image interpretation is to convert raw image data into me- ingful information. Images are often interpreted manually. In medicine, for example, a radiologist looks at a medical image, interprets it, and tra- lates the data into a clinically useful form. Manual image interpretation is, however, a time-consuming, error-prone, and subjective process that often requires specialist knowledge. Automated methods that promise fast and - jective image interpretation have therefore stirred up much interest and have become a signi?cant area of research activity. Early work on automated interpretation used low-level operations such as edge detection and region growing to label objects in images. These can p- ducereasonableresultsonsimpleimages, butthepresenceofnoise, occlusion, andstructuralcomplexity oftenleadstoerroneouslabelling. Furthermore,- belling an object is often only the ?rst step of the interpretation process. In order to perform higher-level analysis, a priori information must be incor- rated into the interpretation process. A convenient way of achieving this is to use a ?exible model to encode information such as the expected size, shape, appearance, and position of objects in an image. The use of ?exible models was popularized by the active contour model, or ‘snake’ [98]. A snake deforms so as to match image evidence (e.g., edges) whilst ensuring that it satis?es structural constraints. However, a snake lacks speci?city as it has little knowledge of the domain, limiting its value in image interpretation.
