Sadey Collins has spent the last three years investigating abuse and neglect cases for Child Protective Services, and, even though she wears her heart on her sleeve, she has become quite proficient at separating her heart from her job. However, this latest case is pulling hard at her heartstrings, and she is seeing parts of herself in a young girl as she attempts to help her deal with her mother’s drug addiction. Sadey’s relationship with her own father has been scarred by his drug addictions, which led to years of broken promises, and a lot of pent-up resentment that her friends and family are pushing her to resolve. To make matters worse, in the midst of the investigation she has been run over by a car, driven to insanity by her mother’s overbearing nature, and forced to be protected from a drug dealer by a man she barely knows. Chase Davis is about to become her best friend’s brother-in-law, but in the meantime he’s become her guardian, close friend and confidant. But when her hound dog, Bones, uses his powers of ‘drool’ to leave her at the complete mercy of Chase, and his magic hands, it leads to her having a world-class argument between her head and her heart that forces her to bare her soul, and maybe even her body, to a man she begins to trust with her life – and maybe her heart.
