About this ebook

I will be your heart, if you will be my shield.

In a world where magic supposedly didn't exist, Serena has spent years struggling to conceal her unpredictable singing magic. While wishing for a peaceful life where she can sing without fear, she sees a man in handcuffs being forced into a shady research center.

Their eyes meet, and the soulbond is forged.

Darien is not from this world, and he's been held captive for years. With the soulbond amplifying his strength, he can fight his way through almost everything, but not every danger can be fought with fists.

Their love draws them together even as power-hungry enemies try to pry them apart. They want to control Darien for their own purposes, but he's too strong to be controlled by force. Their love is their greatest strength-and their biggest vulnerability.

But magic has its own rules, and no song can go unanswered.

Excerpt:

I pitied him, although with that many guards around, he was likely quite dangerous. Who needed thirty security officers to supervise one guy in handcuffs? At this distance, I couldn’t tell if he was wearing leg shackles.

His short brown hair was ruffled by the breeze as he stepped away from the van. My head slowly turned to continue watching him. It was as if I couldn't look away.

The man paused and looked around. His brilliant glowing blue eyes seemed to meet mine across the distance. I couldn't even blink as his eyes held mine. The energy that usually came with my magic rose even though no sound left my lips. It felt like sunlight was running through my veins, as it only did with the strongest songs I had ever sung.

The trees of a park broke our locked gaze as the bus kept driving. I took a deep breath, suddenly disoriented and realizing I had forgotten to breathe.

My eyes went back to the passing trees, trying to spot a gap in the trees so I could see him again. I had no such luck.

Please note that this story has a heavy dose of the “love-at-first-sight”, mate bond, overprotective partner, kidnapping, and damsel-in-distress tropes.

Bedroom scenes are fade-to-black.

About the author

I don't write my characters.

I just watch them do stupid stuff and write up the incident report.

Hidden in a remote town in northern Canada, Crystal Scherer spends much of her free time writing various fantasy and science fiction stories. Her stories gathered over 30 million reads on Wattpad within the first 7 years as she dabbled in non-horror zombies, dragons, aliens, and spaceships.

Her passion for reading and learning occasionally inspire some unusual story arcs, and despite her cats' best attempts to walk on her keyboard, her books are free of swear words. Her favorite hobbies include gardening, volunteering at the local church, and trying to figure out which snowbank her car is buried under this time.

Her life is pretty boring and uneventful, unlike many of her characters, for which she's extremely grateful.
