She has the inborn skills of a thief-professional skills combined with utter caution and wisdom. She is fair like her mother and expert like her father. She is inquisitive and has an urge to excel. She has presence of mind and can think calmly in drastic situation. She is able to think independently. Her opinions are based on her strong common sense. She extends a helping hand for the orphan children of her tribe. She realises the importance of education and decides to give them a steady, safe and cultured life. She believes in educating them at a tender age so as to shape them properly.
‘तिमिरपंथी’ ही कादंबरी चौर्य या कलेच्या आधारे आयुष्य कंठणाऱ्या जमातीतील कलाकारांवर बेतली आहे. पोटापाण्यासाठी गावोगावी वसती (दंगा) हलवणाऱ्या भटक्या जमातीतील मुख्यत्वे सती आणि तिच्या अनुषंगाने येणाऱ्या व्यक्तिरेखांभोवती ही कादंबरी फिरते. ही सती उपजत कलाकार आहे. ‘ही’ कला अंगी घेऊनच ती जन्माला आली आहे. आईकडून गौरवर्णी लावण्य आणि पित्याकडून कामगिरीतलं कसब तिला लाभलं आहे. ती जिज्ञासू, चौकस आहे. धाडसी तर आहेच. समयसूचकता आणि प्रसंगावधानही तिच्याकडे आहे. ऐकलेल्या गोष्टींवर स्वतंत्रपणे विचार करण्याची क्षमता तिच्यात आहे. तिची मतं तर्कसंगत असतात. वस्तीतल्या अपंग मुलीवर मायेचा पदर पसरणारा कनवाळूपणा तिच्यात आहे. शिक्षणाच्या अभावामुळे आपला समाज उपेक्षित आहे, शोषित आहे, भटका आहे, याची तिला जाणीव आहे. स्थिर समाजाच्या प्रवाहात येण्यासाठी संस्कारक्षम शैशवात शिक्षणाची रुजुवात व्हायला पाहिजे अशी तिची धारणा होते. अशा या सतीची कहाणी वाचूनच अनुभवायला हवी.
